| Licensed Joined: Jun 2010 From: West Portland Park I Ride: Like old people f-ck | Oregonians, do you have your ATV/dirt bike card yet Just remembered this, so I got mine and it was free! I actually haven't been asked for the safety card by a forest cop, but some of you (youngsters and dads/moms) out there need to get this NOW if you want to have your ducks in a row when you ride. Jan. 1, 2009 Youth 15 and under and adults supervising youth Jan. 1, 2010 30 and under Jan. 1, 2011 40 and under Jan. 1, 2012 50 and under Jan. 1, 2013 60 and under Jan. 1, 2014 All riders must have an ATV safety education card Czech out the site, the test is pretty easy. I challenged it and passed, though by the skin of my teeth because I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed (but I am a tool!). Some of you will want to blow through the lessons to get a flavor of the questions, but don't listen to much of the actual riding technique advice, this crap was written by pencil-pushing deadwood bureaucrats, not riders. I just did it to keep The Man happy. http://www.rideatvoregon.org/index.c...59C788DDB537D6 Last edited by knuckledragger; 08-31-2010 at 01:20 AM.. |

| Shredical | *shrug* I can't speak for this, but sometimes it's nice to ensure people have a baseline knowledge of what's going on. In snowboarding a lot of ski resorts are requiring "Park passes" so as people know the ettiquete and also what's safe. Things like... not dropping in on people, calling your drop, what arms raised in an X means (Don't guy a persons on the landing). I've seen countless injuries in snowboarding due to people simply not knowing, and there not being a uniform standard. I again, can't speak for this, but it may be a similiar cause? |

| Shredical | Nevermind... I just started taking the thing and the first chapter is ultra gay, and because I missed one question I now have to wait 30 minutes to retake a chapter quiz?!?!? Fuck this noise! |

| Shredical | Well I just got mine now. Shredical! Doesn't this count as a government issued ID? This would be perfect for some little kid to make a fake ID with... as they put any birthday you want on it! Last edited by jnicola; 08-31-2010 at 01:35 PM.. |

Might there be an opportunity for us all being able to ace the test, if you know what I mean? Just a thought, though not an honest one. I suppose one could look at it as sticking it to the Bureaucracy. What say you? |

| Pit Crew Joined: Feb 2008 From: Portland, Oregon USA I Ride: '06 GSX-R750, '03 CR250, '97 Banshee | I believe the card is a govt reaction to many many ATV crashes, all preventable by using a little common sense. I was at Florence a couple weekends ago and saw a woman get life flighted out because she went flying over the top of a big dune without knowing what was on the other side- a 50 ft drop straight down. We ride mostly in big groups with some noobs and its up to the experienced riders to train the less experienced riders. I tell people "The dunes are very safe if you follow 2 rules... 1. Always know EXACTLY what is right in front of you. Sand can be very deceiving if you're not paying attention. 2. Don't go anywhere you don't feel comfortable." |

| Shredical | Well... I must say after being out on the trails it is a bit nice, it will in theory start to ensure that everyone has at least some basic level of understanding of ettiquete, and it may help reduce ATV deaths, given that they are far more numerous than dirtbike deaths and injuries. |
