Do any of my local friends remember my GMC Truck? I've had it for 12 years and spent countless hours customizing and maintaining it. It's been my pride and joy (besides the R1).

















This is what it looks like now, after a 16 year old girl lost control and hit me almost head-on Thanksgiving night. It happened on highway 30. I have some injuries which prevent any riding for a few weeks, but I think I'll recover 100%. Now, I need to find something to replace my truck, which I had intended to keep forever. I won't ever find a 13 year old truck that nice, so let me know if you know of something 8-12 years old like it. I might be interested in a Suburban too.

This is the other car. She's on crutches from a calf injury and had a concussion.

Sorry bout' the ride, I know what you mean. I can't even begin to say how long I've driven mine, and over the years there have been many close calls. One day, I may have to say good bye.

Sorry to see that kinda thing happen, that truck was clean. I've got a 93 Suburban in awesome shape. It's beige/bronze in color. 180k miles, AT, RWD, still running strong. Could use a set of new tires tho. I can get pics if ur interested.

If those are the tires I think they are (hers), they are shitty as hell in inclement weather (what "street" tire isn't though). Look like Zexius XI-326's or whatever the new name is. Generic Les Scwhab brand, decent tires in good weather though for the price.

Wow, glad you're still with us. I have a '91 Chev. standard cab, short wide box, 2 wheel drive. Not as nice as yours was but i still love it. Heal quick. P.S. How much for the roll pan and hard tonneau cover?

She was in a slide when she came into my lane, so I hit her right front fender with my grill. She spun around and her right rear wheel hit my left rear wheel. I didn't included pics of her left side, but I we hit so hard that her left front and rear end were also buckled from the force of the impact. My right rear got smashed up by the power pole guy wires where I came to rest on the shoulder. The wires caught on the bed of my truck preventing me from falling farther down the embankment.

I'm hoping to find something as new or newer than my truck. I like that body style though. It's really hard to find older trucks and Suburbans that have been well cared for. Is yours 2WD? Those are hard to find also. The real bummer is that mine also had brand new tires. I would like to see pics of yours if you have them on your computer.

I think her tires may have contributed. The road was wet, but not icy at all. She was following her boyfriend to his house. Maybe he was going fast and she was trying too hard to keep up. Testosterone, adrenaline, the hope of some teen sex... who knows?

Yeah, it just needs some glass, a new tire, and the rest will buff out. I could probably get the Dent Dr. to fix it.

Yeah, who knows how fast she was going? I was going about 50 with excellent tires. She may have been going faster. The road right there is full of s-curves.

I'm glad I was in my truck because it helped me survive, but I would have rather lost any other car in the family. I've been trying to sell my wife's minivan. I'd much rather have that totaled and be done with it. It's really hard when you are attached to a favorite vehicle. I suppose my R1 is the only thing that I would hate to lose more.

I haven't cleaned the extra parts up to verify their condition. I've got the tonneau, rollpan, flip-up license mount, spare tire relocator, and class III hidden hitch. It's all going to be for sale as soon as my body heals up enough to clean it all up. I know there was a little damage to the rollpan, but it's up underneath, where it doesn't show, and it looks like it could be fixed easily. I couldn't tell it was damaged until I took it off. The rollpan is $200+ new and the tonneau is about $700 new, but I'll probably ask about 1/3 of that or less after checking it all out, and I'll get a lot of pictures if you're really interested.

I have a friend in California that likes to refurbish/rebuild vehicles as a hobby. He does a good job too. I think he can do everything himself except frame straightening.

If you want, I could ask him to look around for that same model and year.

I was kind of joking about the parts. Put me down for the roll pan assembly (with license plate assembly) and the hidden receiver. Maybe i can make a road trip up to check out your blue A-star jacket and pull the truck parts. Get to feelin' better and we'll figure it out from there. Hi Brett, I will be in the market for something when I get the insurance settlement. It might be a few weeks or a month. I will be looking for either another truck, or a Suburban for now, but that could change depending on what happens between now and then. If your friend has any vehicles that haven't been rebuilt from crashes I would be interested. Mine was really nice, and that's what I'll be looking for again. I'm willing to travel to get it. It doesn't have to be a 97, but I don't really want to go older since I will want airbags and fuel injection again.

I've already had a little interest in some of the parts, so if you're interested, I'll try to clean them up and get pictures of them for you. I just need both hands working 100% to pick up the heavy items like the hitch. I had my 14 year old boy take it off the truck because I couldn't turn a wrench. I sold my blue A-star jacket just last week, right before my wreck. Sorry about that. It was pretty amazing that I didn't end up in a hospital or worse. Airbags are a great invention.

I've been driving 30 to work two weeks of every month for nearly two years. It is spooky sometimes. I don't know what I can do about it though. I have to work. I could move closer to work, but then I would have to live near Longview (the horror!). I'm happy where I live and I just deal with the scary drive.

It turns out that x-ray's are not that reliable for picking up injuries. After a month of consistent pain in my knee and wrist, I finally got MRI's on both of them.

My knee has some pretty severe bone contusions to the backside of the kneecap and the femur. The doctor says it looks like the kneecap moved to the side on impact with the truck dash, which allowed the femure to actually damage the dash a little. No surgery needed, but it will take a long time for the pain to stop, and it might not all go away. I'll be much more likely to get arthritis in the knee as I age.

My wrist actually does have a fractured bone which the x-ray didn't pick up. It's been hurting to bend or twist my wrist, and it sometimes makes cracking or popping noises. Now I know it wasn't all my imagination. I also have a torn tendon. I'm also more likely to have arthritis in the wrist now. I've got removable braces on both my wrist and knee which should protect them and help them to start healing.

All of this was found in MRI's taken a month after the accident, so I wonder what the MRI's might have shown if I had them done the day after. I'm obviously not going to settle anything with the insurance for a while. They haven't offered anything reasonable for my truck either, so I'm still without wheels, other than driving my wife's van or my kids car. I can't ride my R1 because of my injuries even if the weather would cooperate. Now I can't work since the fracture was discovered, until I'm cleared again by a flight surgeon and the FAA. I've got a good lawyer, but everything has been in limbo for the holidays.

I found out the girl who hit me is already out driving around in her new car. The roads were very slick and icy this morning, so everyone on the North Coast should be watching out for her. If you see her coming towards you in a curve, brace for impact.

Doug, I know you would take good care of it, but I have plenty of room for the R1 now. I just wish I could heal up so I could take it out on some of the nice days we had last week. You should take it easy when you're out riding till I get back in the helicopter. Hopefully it will be this coming week. I got your email with the route for the 7 day ride. I looks fantastic. I will do my best to make that one. We'll have to make sure we start out on new tires because anything less will probably need to be replaced before it's over.

Thanks man. It's definitely too far gone to buff out. They've already taken the truck away. Now if I could get them to get real on the value. I'm still without wheels a month and a half later. They better be ready to write a big check, because my settlement price is going up daily. I'm alive, but I probably wont be 100% for a while.
