2700 mile ride Eh?? Sounds like too much fun actually. But in my reality, to get away for a week, would not be a possibility. However, I too have been on a few rides with some pdx riders. With the right group, it can be a lot of fun. I'm trying to find a gathering of local riders here and Longview. I see them riding all over so I know I could generate a big group, it's just getting in contact with them that might be tough. I'll just start running them off the road with the jeep to get their attention. Har har. Regardless my mission this year is to get together with you coastal riders at least twice this year.

I haven't been on here for a while. I would be down to meet up with everyone once in a while. I am getting tired of this weather though.I want a nice warm day I'm tired of being cold and wet when I ride.

I don't know if you got replies from anyone else, but I can't make it on Sunday. Have fun if you guys meet. I'll catch you on the next one.

I don't think there's been a bike night for several months. Welcome to the coast. We have some great roads if you know where to go to avoid all the RV's. There are several riders around, but of the guys I rode with last year, 1 is moving next month, 1 is out of the country till July, 1 has his bike for sale, and 1 already sold his. I'm sure we'll get a group going soon if we can get some reliable decent weather. My name is John. I keep a list of names on my phone and usually send a text message to everyone to see who's available when the weather is good. I could put you on my list. Hopefully, you'll get your own list going when you meet all of us. My cell number is on my profile.

Hey, I guess I'm new around here too...though I thought I had an account from way back but can't figure out what my user/password was! Think I might have sold some race take offs to somebody on here...can't remember....was it Ron?

Anyway, been without a street bike for about 6 years and bought one again a few months ago since I've 'retired' from roadracing. Looking to go for a ride now and then. Hope to see some of you around.

-Dave

Welcome Dave. Ron told me that he's bought race takoff's before, so you might be right. He's moving next month. Hope to meet you for a ride sometime. What bike did you buy? John

John, thanks for the welcome. Picked up a '03 Gix 1K. Ran it around here a bit so far, over to the twisties along Willipa Bay, looped down to 53, out to the falls, ect.

Those are the good spots. Also Hwy 202 from Astoria to Jewell has had some recent roadwork to make it nicer. The Miami River Road at the south end of Hwy 53 is another great one. Hopefully we'll be making some runs on all of those this summer.

There are several people on the forum planning a 7 day ride down into California this summer starting the last weekend in July. If you can make that, it will be 2700 miles of mostly twisties. We'll see how many can make it as it gets closer, but I'm planning on it, and I think there are 5 or 6 more.

Welcome Dave. Shit time flies. If I remember right, you had a Blackbird all those years ago for street riding and we did a Windy Ridge ride together. I think I was riding a blue zx9 back then. I hope you sold the Blackbird and didn't wreck it.

How are the withdrawals coming from 'retiring' from roadracing? You will never get completely over it but your wallet will probably thank you

Hope to see you around soon.

Bret

Bret lives! I stopped by your work to see you several weeks ago. All the doors were open, but no one was there. How are you doing? Are you still living along Hwy 53?

Sorry for the thread jack everyone.

John ~ good to hear you’re still planning on going to CA in July. You’ve been real quiet on the email chain and I was beginning to wonder. Although I imagine you have been reading them & laughing your ass off at all the drama. I went to PIR last Friday, had a blast with QCDragon, blew out the cobwebs in the R1 & toasted some tires.

End thread jack, you may continue with your regularly scheduled program……..

I have read several of the email messages, but haven't looked for several days. I need to reply to some of my email, and I've just been too busy. I'm planning on going, but still have a lot of stuff to do to get my R1 ready. I don't think I'll have time or money to adjust my valves. Is that really necessary if it's running good? I'm glad you had fun at PIR. I might have come by if I knew you were there. I've been by there a few times recently, but just to watch. I can't afford the fees.

Yep, still on 53. I finished the motorcycle room, you need to swing by sometime so I can show it off.

You around this Sunday? I'm thinking of posting a meet, greet and short ride on Sunday since the posts have started to pick up a little. The weather is supposed to be decent in the afternoon.

I'm trying to take the family out of town for a few days, but it's not set in stone yet. If we stay home, I'll let you know for sure. My bike is down right now for some repairs, so my life kind of sucks till I get the parts. If I come down and see your motorcycle room, I'm going to want to move into it. I like your house.

Haven't been out to Jewell on 202 for forever. Used to love running 47 and Apiary. Good times. Hopefully I can join up.

That sounds like a hoot, but my schedule is full. Have fun!

Hey Bret! Yes, time does fly! The Blackbird made it shiny side up as long as I owned it. Sold it right after Keith Pinkstaff died in '05. Tough times right then. I raced with Keith on his Endurance team and we had just won the NW Endurance Overall Championship a few weeks prior. The same day he died my wife and I were also on a street ride aboard the BB and almost got taken out by a knuckle head cager just like Keith. Had enough with street riding at the time, sold the 'bird and been streetbikeless ever since.

Racing withdrawals? Eh, not bad. I was fortunate enough to race for 10 years with the support of my wife and was successful enough at it that I was able to gather decent sponsorship and win contingency money. If not for that, I would have been done after 4 years. The average racer last less than 2 years. A bunch don't even make it through their novice year. They find it's A) too expensive B) there is always somebody faster than you C) too expensive D) takes up all your time. I finished up racing last year, kinda dabbling at that point and weening myself off.

So here we are today and ya, I miss the track...but alas, that is why I bought the street Gix, as I can get my track fix instructing for PSSR and get a little street ride in now and then to fill in the gaps.

What's in your garage since the ZX?

Yeah, Keith's passing was a tough one. I vividly remember Keith being the track instructor for my novice groups first trip around PIR, way back in '93. I remember asking myself, how can someone ride, sitting up, facing backwards and pointing with one hand in the air, while I was going so dam stupid scary fast Good times.

I currently have a Duc 1198s and BMW GS in the stable. Spend most miles on the GS. The Duc if fun but mainly garage eye candy, ergos are terrible for the street and you really don't realize any of its great features until way past go to jail speed.
