Astoria Bike Night for April 2009
OK Gang:

What weekend works out the best for every one
I am good to go any Sunday or Saturday except the Third one of each month due to Dive Team Training,

We have a good route picked out for the ride
So I say if weather permits meet at 9:00 am ride then back to Rolling Thunder BBQ for dinner

should it rain plan to be at Rolling Thunder for dinner at 5:00.
maybe if we can plan this a little in advance some of the flatlanders could come out to the coast to join us

The last weekend in April is the Astoria Seafood festival:

http://www.oldoregon.com/events/entr...wine-festival/

I'm planning on being in attendance. Trying to find some other bikes to come up from this area. Will probably camp out at Fort Stevens State Park.

Maybe we can all get together sometime then?

Well, if I could plan in advance, I woulda grabbed your number off the profile and called ya. Wind Farm ride wasn't happening, (snow and ice just ruins a ride...) so at breakfast this morning we decided on Rolling Thunder BBQ for lunch. Made it by 1:30. Bruce did good by us. Bunch of long riders from the LDRiders.list were over at the Wet Dog, they wanted something stronger than root beer.
Home by 7:30. 406 miles. Good day to ride. April is out for me, catch you later this summer.

I think he was referring to the fact that he'd like to come up FOR the seafood festival, not that it would bother our plans.

I have night watch the 24th but will be free the rest of the weekend.

OK I have given this a good deal of thought
for me the last weekend of the month works out best and for the majority of the guys I know that will be coming to these get together,

So here is the plan join in at which ever time works best for you, meet at the Astoria Pig n Pancake at 7:00 for brake fast sit relax visit for a while head over to the parking lot across from McDonald at around 8:45 to be there for the 9:00 meet and great for the riders that were not at breakfast, head out for a ride at 9:30

going to run the loop planed for last months Bike Night as the rain kept us from enjoying the day

back to Rolling Thunder BBQ for Dinner at around 5:00

any one wishing to join in feel free to do so I will provide route information to any one needing it

the ride will be right around 135 miles or so give or take a few miles

I Will post a more detailed route and map in the next day or so for any one that might need one

I am also sending emails to a few riding Buddy's that are not members to PNW Riders that may join in

hope to see every one there

ridding from Astoria to Longbeach then down highway 4 to longview then back up highway 30 on the oregon side to Rolling Thunder BBQ for dinner

same rout as was planded for last months Bike night do to the rain keeping us from ridding

in the event of rain we will meet at rolling thunder for dinner
I have spokento Ron and john and they both plan to be there along with a few others that I ride with

so far if every one planning to attend can make it there should be between
10 and 15 bikes

If the weather is good, I am still planning on running up 101 from Lakeside. I'd suspect me (and if I get others to join) could potentially meet up with you for dinner.

On a side note - having some trouble with Fort Stevens info... the website for reservations is giving me fits. Are there other campgrounds within the area that you'd advise me to check out? Just need a spot to set up my tent. (and maybe a couple more)

Nice... I'll know more Thursday night, that's our bike nite here in Eugene. It may end up just being me (since the weatherman has now started to agree with me upon my request for descent weather).

Yes, an address to the BBQ place would be nice so I can bring a map.

ok. I'll be there at the BBQ place by 5. I'm not sure if i'll be on the bike or not seeing that my new tires won't be on until early next week. right now i'm still running my stock tires with like 8400 miles on them. so I'm trying to keep the riding to a minimum until I get the new ones. If i'm not riding though I'll cage it out in my wrangler. maybe i'll bring some other people from out this way

I got permission, I have the gas money, the problem I having is the time. 9:30 am? as in the morning? Morning temps around 40? Coming from Rainier I'll have to leave around 8. Thats gonna be a cold ride. I'll be an icicle by the time I get to astoria. I'm still debating...help convince me.

Serendipity in Warrenton. Awesome breakfast food. The breakfast burritos are huge. And the biscuits and gravy are terrific.

We did it! Had 4 bikes (6 people) from Astoria to Longview on highway 4 in Washington. There was a Yamaha, Suzuki, Buell, and HD. Two more HD's joined us in Longview. Nathan showed up at Rollin Thunder with a Kawasaki. Two instructors from MSC were at Rollin Thunder also. If you count the Buell as another HD, we sportbikes were outnumbered. I think the Buell is more like a sportbike than an HD, but we need more sportbikes represented.

We had a good time. No accidents. Nice roads with very little traffic in Washington. It was pretty cold and drizzled on us a lot during the day, but was still a lot of fun. Can't wait to do it again next month.

Ron, being sick is no excuse to miss the ride or the dinner. Stick a cork in it next time. We'll let you have the seat closest to the bathroom. James, I can't wait to see the pics you took with your pretty pink camera. Post them when you get a chance. Nathan, it was great to meet you. Wish you could've come along all day.

What a great and diverse group of people and bikes. We all had fun stories and an enjoyable meal together. It goes to show that no matter how different our bikes are, we can all enjoy rides together and the company of other riders. I enjoy you guys and gals as much in the restaurant as I do on the ride. Thanks for a great time.

After my excursions through Fort Stevens this morning, and the trip over to Ilwaco and back, and the coffee, and the Fred Meyer trip, and THEN to the seafood festival for lunch (shrimp melt, crab melt, and a bowl of seafood chowder..mmmmmm), I finally left sunshiny Astoria down to Seaside and over 26 to 47 and back to Eugene.

I am quite ready for a long evening's sleep.

Nice to meet everyone and yes, it was my first time ever parking INSIDE a restaurant. That story will be spread all overy Eugene by tomorrow!!

Hey, those were all great pictures. Thanks for posting them, both of you. Did you notice my toy bike looks a lot like my real one? I wouldn't have got my wife back on the real one after the Longview to Astoria leg. It was getting too cold.

Toy...

Real...

If I had my head painted like my helmet, I could just leave the helmet home.

I'll quit bothering you about the pink camera. At least we'll always know which one is yours.

I think I saw you ride up to Costco today. I was loading the back of our van with about $450 worth the groceries. My kids can eat. Who was with you waiting by the bike?

I saw you guys at the chevron in Longview. I was gonna stop and say hi, but got scared & kept driving by. I'm hoping to make the next one.

Hey 109..... Did I see you crossing the longview bridge today? I was riding da busa back home from Pro Caliber after getting new rubber.

Fresh rubber, 12 month service done..... I have no excuse not to make the next one.

I rode to work a couple days ago when it was nice. I think it was the day before on the 1st. Depending on what day it was you might have seen me. I rode into LV at about 7:30pm and rode out about 8:00am the next morning. Weather has been pretty crappy since then, so I've been driving. Don't be scared of us. I had my wife with me that day. She helps calm me so I don't bite people when she's around even if I get off my leash.

I rode the R1 to work again since it was so nice out (Fri, 15 May). I plan to ride it again for the next few days. Unfortunately, I have to work on such a nice weekend, but at least getting there and back will be a lot of fun on the R1.

Be safe out there. I picked up a 18 year old kid today who supposedly flipped an ATV over and it landed on him. I heard there was no helmet. It looked like he might have some back and internal injuries. Take it easy, or I might be coming to take you to the ER. It wont be a fun flight for you.

Well, it finally happened today. I figured in my new job as a Life Flight pilot I would eventually pick up a sportbike rider. It took about 5 months.

Today, I got a guy from up on hwy 504 on Mt. St. Helens. I landed in the parking lot of the closed observatory to pick him up near the end of the line on this map, http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en...,1.230469&z=10. I got to talk to him for a few seconds as they unloaded him from the helicopter. He was on a Blue 2004 R1, just like mine! He had a girl with him and I guess she wasn't hurt too bad. I didn't see her. I heard too that there was another rider who might have seen it. He said he was just going about 40 when something went wrong with the rear end, either vibrating or "chattering", and he lost it. I didn't hear this part from him, but from one of the medical crew. Maybe we'll hear more about it later on the news or this forum.

Tomorrow is another supposed to be another sunny day. I'll be riding my R1 to Longview again for work. Let's all be safe out there...

I got another one today... A lady was riding with a group of cruisers up by the Swift Reservoir near Cougar south of Mt. St. Helens. She hit a pot hole and went down. Wasn't hurt too bad, but wasn't happy either. We landed and picked her up near the boat ramp in the campground on the east end of Swift Reservoir around 3:30pm.

Ride careful out there! You people are bringing me too much business!

Wow sorry to hear about those but tis the season. I'm thinking that these stories you are bringing us will be a valuable means to keep us thinking of the many dangers that lurk out on the roads. Not all accidents are caused by rider error. Be safe out there people.
Ok 109, did I see you this am riding across the lv bridge about 6 am?

Wasn't me today. I rode to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but today I took the truck because I looked at the forecast this morning and saw that it was going to get nasty by afternoon. The forecast was right. I usually ride across the bridge into LV between 730 and 745. Work starts at 800. When I work nights, the time is the same, but with a "pm" behind it. I'm going to work a couple of nights this week for someone else. I plan to ride if the weather is decent. When I work a night shift, both the ride there and home are in the daylight.

I flew my butt off today. Thank god none of my victims was from a bike wreck, just people with medical issues. Got one in Seaside, then Centralia, WA, and the last one in Astoria. Took each of them to hospitals in Portland. I was in the seat for over 4.5 hours and burned a total of 205 gallons of jet fuel.

I met your friend, Matt yesterday (Sunday). I had my R1 up on top of the parking garage. He came up and looked at it, then we went down to the third floor to see his Hayabusa. Seems like a pretty good guy. He didn't ride today either.
