Terrible news...really throws a dark, heavy damper on an otherwise fun event.
SR-20 is a great road, but very unforgiving in many, many places.

Condolences to the family and friends of the fallen rider.

I heard about this today from my buddy who was really good friends with Sky, definitely a sad outcome to a normally great event.

I do find it funny in the article that they call it a "street racer" style of bike

Very sad indeed, RIP rider. I didn't know him, I have a pretty good idea where this happened. There are a couple left handers there near the lookouts that can sneak up on ya and seem to decrease in radius. I have to remind myself of these every time. This event has gotten so big that unfortunately something like this was getting more and more likely to happen. My thoughts are definitely with the family.

And yeah "street racer type bike"... That's just laziness, and poor editing. He couldn't think of "sport" and "bike"?

Sad to have a rider die while participating in the Monkeybutt road rally (I'm assuming he was). To make it clear for you bench racers and those who might take your postings seriously:

This event is NOT a race. It is not closed-course. It is not sanctioned by a racing body. Bill gives a speech about the event before participants leave the shop every year. The only thing you NEED to do is register. After that, you are on your own schedule. Some people sightsee, some go the speed limit, some speed (like they do any other day), and others may go part of the way or not at all. Again, sad to see someone lose a life on a bike that day. My condolences go out to his friends and family.

FYI: Yes, I've been on the past couple and was planning on it this year, but helping get an fjr 1300 back on the road for an Ironbutt rider who is mid-trip on a north american ride was more important this year.
