Motorcycle Maintenance Meetup, Revisited

Posted 02-08-2010 at 09:20 PM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)
Updated 02-09-2010 at 10:44 AM by Gamuru (I mis-remembered)

First, let me start by saying, "Thank you!" to Travis and Dave. Travis did a great job organizing this event and getting everyone together. Dave for opening up his garage and letting us use his lift, tools, and supplies. Again, thank you both for your efforts. It was much appreciated. (And thanks to all the participants for putting up with me sticking my camera all up in your grill and hovering over your shoulder while you were trying to work. It was for a good cause. I swear! )...

KLR Kraziness

Posted 02-06-2010 at 05:55 AM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

It's been extremely busy here these last few weeks. With April and I getting our KLRs and having to sort out their unique problems, I haven't had much time to sit down and write.

We went for a couple of "test" rides yesterday to try out the lowering links I put on April's bike to see...

Time and Money

Posted 01-24-2010 at 04:34 PM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

Here's the skinny on April's new-to-her '87 KLR650. We pretty much got home on the battery alone. I've seen candles put out more light than her headlight.

I did some research and it can either be a faulty Regulator/Rectifier or a bad/shorted Stator. Well, there's the possibility that a wire got pinched, but probably not. How am I going to fix the charging system? After the battery is charged, I'll swap my Reg/Rec with hers to see if it is charging. If not, I'll do some in depth testing...

I Feel Dirty

Posted 01-18-2010 at 07:12 AM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)
Updated 01-18-2010 at 08:31 AM by Gamuru

...and that's a good thing!

That's right, boys and girls, yours truly got himself a new-to-him '88 KLR650. I picked it up for $1,200. Wasn't it just a short week ago I was saying I wanted a dual sport? And BLAM!! One comes and hunts me down. Cheap, too.

A friend of a customer just happened to be selling his, so I snatched it up. When I went to look at her, I about fell...

Was It Fate?

Posted 01-12-2010 at 08:37 PM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

I was going through some old pictures and found some from our honeymoon at Ocean Shores. I had forgotten about these and laughed when I saw them...

It would seem we were destined to ride together. We were both 19 years old at the time. That was almost twenty years ago. Man,...

I Need A Dual Sport!

Posted 01-10-2010 at 05:54 PM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

That's it! I'm officially addicted to dirt. I need me a dual sport. It's going on the list of things to buy this year.

"How did this happen?" you ask. Well, my buddy Ken invited me to go for a ride. He mentioned something about running up to this lookout point above Lake Whatcom. He assured me the road up wasn't too bad... and he was right. It didn't take me long, following him on his KLR 650, to realize a dual sport would have been a much better fit for this situation....

My Seat Recovery Project

Posted 01-03-2010 at 04:59 PM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)
Updated 01-04-2010 at 05:53 AM by Gamuru

Let me start by saying, "Hell ya! I'm done!"

This project turned into what can be only described as work. And, as we all know, work isn't fun. It's work. That's why you get paid, cuz you wouldn't do it otherwise.

Enough of that. Let's get to the pictures. For the sake of saving room, I'll post the thumbnail for most of the photos. Click each to embiggen it, 'kay?

And So It Begins...

Posted 12-28-2009 at 08:39 AM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

The highway back into town is frosted over. I'm done riding until we get a long, warm spell to thaw things out.

I've been threatening to do it for a couple weeks now, and, this morning, I went and did it.

Yep, I stripped my seat down. It's time for a recovery. You see, the seat has been slowly coming apart at the seams all year long, and it desperately...

Adventures of a Harley Chic Rider

Updated 12-08-2009 at 09:10 PM by LadyGladiator (update)

A lot has happened since my last post. I fell off the PNWRiders wagon for a long time.

My VROD, I named her Vida (Spanish for life), had to have tranny and engine rebuild this past Summer. She was in the shop all riding season. The tranny and engine failed because of a defective manufactured part in the tranny. Basically, shards of metal were thrown into the engine via oil pump. Imagine that! All the bearings got eaten up.

She was back on the road long enough for me...

Destination Highways - A Recommendation

Posted 12-07-2009 at 10:33 PM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

The Cliff-Notes Version of this blog post: Buy this book.

I was introduced to this fine riding guide while on vacation at my brother- and sister-in-law's place. That was back in September. We were trying to decide where to ride so my sister-in-law pulls out this book, Destination Highways Washington, and hands it to me. Right away I knew I was holding something special. Hell, the first highway listed in the...
