I'm happy to report that we made the return trip on Sunday. The weather was great; not too hot, not to cold. There were a few clouds about, but for the most...

Congratulation! You get the Asshole Driver of the Day Award!

We followed this asshat in his Honda Odyssey Touring Edition off Mount Baker all the way to the interchange with Highway 9. That's like 30-something miles of pure hell! He did the speed limit exactly five times in that entire stretch. I know because I counted.

What was it that qualified him for the award, you ask? No, it wasn't the fact that he had almost twenty...

Out for a Ride

Updated 08-09-2009 at 06:06 AM by Gamuru

A friend of mine, and long-time customer, recently asked me about getting together for a ride. We had discussed it several times in the past. I told him that I had already stopped by his place three freakin' times and he was never home. I even threatened to put my calling card in his front door—a size twelve muddy boot print.

Well, we finally decided Friday, yesterday, that we would meet for the ride. Destination? Artist Point on top of Mount Baker. Bear in mind that when we made...

Portland Bound

Posted 07-08-2009 at 05:37 AM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

(Here I sit reflecting on my last ride into Oregon and it occurs to me I still haven't posted anything about my first trip. Man, I'm falling way behind. Oh well...)

Two Sundays ago, my wife and I left Granite Falls after breakfast and headed down 203 into Enumclaw. Our destination was Portland, but we were going to take the scenic route getting there.

The ride down was pretty uneventful... except for when we were came into Black Diamond. (At least I think it was Black...

Gone Again

Yep. Making another trip south of the border. No, not Mexico. Oregon. My wife and I are headed out sometime after breakfast in the morning. We're headed for Portland and will be there until Tuesday.

I've got a rough route planned that will take us down 203 to I-90, then over to Hwy 18 , then around the backside of Ranier and on down south toward Longview, but over on the west side of I-5. Once there, we'll hop the river and catch 30 into Portland.

Monday I have a business...

Orcas Island's Mt. Constitution

Updated 05-30-2009 at 04:17 AM by Gamuru

A week ago Sunday, my wife and I decided to ride the ferry from Anacortas over to Orcas Island to do a little sight-seeing. In all my years of living in Washington, I had never set foot on Orcas Island. Lopez and San Juan Island? Yes. Orcas? Nope. Odd, huh?

We headed out on our trip after getting our fill of breakfast from Ike's in Granite Falls. (A note in the margin: Ive said it before and I'll say it again. Ike's makes a great Denver omelet!) On the way into Anacortas, I look in...

Where to Ride?

There you sit, scratching your head trying to figure out where you want to ride. The sun is out, calling you, but you just can't decide where to point the handlebars. What to do? What to do?

Well, I've an idea for you. Well, actually, several of them. Last night, I sat down at my computer, plagued by the same conundrum, trying to decide what to do and where to ride. I had a certain set of criteria that had to be met: it had to be close by, but would take about eight hours total time....

Climbing Mt. Baker by Bike

Posted 05-20-2009 at 07:28 AM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

Our buddy KenInSeattle queried the crew here asking for input on the ride up to Mt. Baker. Many of the Bellingham area riders chimed in with suggestions, warnings, and advice. As it happened, I was looking for a destination. I had Saturday free and decided to go ahead and make the trip up the mountain.

The road to the top was actually pretty clean and clear. There wasn't a lot of sand or gravel. But, boy those hairpin corners seemed to wrap around forever! Someone warned they would...

Drive By Blogging

Posted 05-18-2009 at 06:07 AM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

I don't have a lot of time this morning for writing a lengthy blog post. I did want to say a big THANK YOU! to whomever it was that created such a fabulous weekend weatherwise. It was awesome! I spent pretty much the entire three days on the back of my bike seeing the sights.

Friday was spent doing a little running around on the backroads between Granite Falls, Snohomish, Arlington, Big Lake, and Lake Cavanaugh. Saturday found me on top of Mt. Baker. And Sunday? My wife and I caught...
