MSF SBRC Undisclosed Location

It amazes me even now, how every couple of years another "requirement" comes along which forces me (not by accident I presume) to reevaluate my skill in the saddle and this past October a new requirement presented itself. Now, in order to legally ride a sport bike on any naval installation, a sport bike rider must complete the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Sport Bike Rider Course. Although it is required to ride a sport bike, completion of the course also meets the current three year requirement for refresher motorcycle training, so any style of motorcycle can participate, as you will see illustrated in the pictures to follow.

Here's the scene--12 (plus, 1 inst. bike) motorcycles behind "unspecified" bldg at an "undisclosed location" for an "indeterminable" amount of time :

At first glance you might not notice but in this class we not only have a Honda PC800, we have a Goldwing as well! I'm thinking to myself "What kind of sport bike is this?"

Anyway, not one to be the judge, I shrug it off and later learn that the two Honda lux-o-liners are piloted by MSF instructors, so it's all good.

One of the sport bike instructors rides this:

(CBR600RR)

While the other sport bike instructor sports his bike (busa) around in a trailer like the one in the background of this photo:

(his battery was dead)

So here's our "undisclosed" setting, where we learn some things like spotting problem scenarios on the road in literally .01 seconds:

The Range

We did a lot of stuff out here that I haven't done in the three previous MSF courses I have taken over the years, most notably the "Big Circle / Little Circle (with inside and outside obstacle on the little circle)maneuver." I have never done that one before today in a controlled environment:

Big Circle

Little Circle

After doing a few circles we took a break:

I took a break:

Some riders took a break all the way over at the "nondiscript area":

Then, we got back to work doing the "Inside Swerve, Little Obstacle / Big Obstacle:"

That was a lot of fun but soon we were on to other things like the "Riding Between Parallel Painted Lines Around Corners Routine" like the instructor is demo ing here:

We had another break:

Then capped off the course with the "Inside Loop / Outside Loop-with-Lane Change/Blinker-On/Head Check Maneuver:"

I had a good time and recommend the class to anyone irrespective of experience or skill level.

Parting Shot:

The End.

Coffee Shop Trip Report is on the way.

edited. Photography of an empty parking lot with motorcycles on it is not allowed by the DOD.

Great report and piccies Clay!

I wish that they'd offer that class for civilians. Controlled environment practice is a beautiful thing.

Photography on base is allowed when you have the proper passes and IMHO I thought the class was pretty blah

Thanks. I'll be much more careful of which parking lot I photograph motorcycles in in the future. Thanks again, I mean that.

I wasn't posting this up for seasoned veteran pro rocket jockeys like you man, but thanks for drumming up some positive sentiment nonetheless.
