The Path Less Traveled

Welcome to my blog! I'm committing this space to my adventures with motorcycles and activities related with them. This will include all sorts of stories about repairing them, going on trips, learning different riding techniques, meeting other riders, etc. In other words, a general dumping ground for whatever strikes me. Hope you enjoy the read.

The Proof

Posted 11-16-2009 at 07:41 AM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

...is in the pudding. That's how the saying gos, right?

I just posted (really late, mind you) my mileage numbers for October. Pathetic.

I put a whopping 278 miles on the bike and 11 miles on the truck. Yep, it truly is the end of Riding Season for me.

Perhaps it's time to take the seat off and start planning for its recovery.

Mileage Update

Posted 09-02-2009 at 08:07 AM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

I just updated the 2009 Mileage Study sidebar for August. I put on over 1,500 miles in the last month which puts me over 10,000 miles ridden for the year.

It's fun to think back to when and where I was while putting those many miles on the clock. It's been a great year for riding, for sure!

XS650 Heritage Special

Posted 07-19-2009 at 06:35 PM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

A customer stopped by the store where I work on his bike. He was riding a Yamaha XS650. Unfortunately, I didn't catch the year, but I'm thinking somewhere around 1980. When I finally got a chance to grab my camera for some pictures, the owner had wandered off to one of the other shops in the shopping center. I went ahead and snapped a couple quick photos of this fine example of Yamaha engineering.

An Interesting Factoid

Posted 06-23-2009 at 08:09 AM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

I don't remember what I was looking for when I stumbled upon this little tidbit. The quote comes from a .pdf document found on the Washington State Patrol's web site titled, The Team Behind the Badge.
Quote:
In 1921, when the Washington State Department of Efficiency appointed the first six highway patrolmen to serve the public, by providing assistance along our roadways and upholding the law, Washington State was much different from what it is today.

1.3 million people, 40,000 miles

Time

Posted 06-20-2009 at 01:42 PM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

Ever notice how time just seems to slip by? It's been that way for the last couple weeks. Well, since I got back from Coos Bay, Oregon. I've been meaning to do a post on that trip and put up some really neat pictures. I just haven't had the time to get everything organised and uploaded to the interwebs.

Tomorrow's Sunday. Finally, a day off. Perhaps I can get something put together then. But... It is Father's Day, and the car needs rear brake pads, and there's that 3D movie, Up. I...

Change of Plans

Posted 06-04-2009 at 06:38 AM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

My nephew is graduating from high school on Saturday, necessitating a run down to Coos Bay to witness the event. I had intended to ride over to my sister-in-law and brother-in-law's place in Eastern Washington then we'd all ride down together. Bad weather in Eastern Oregon has pretty much killed those plans.

I had so looked forward to seeing a bunch of these places I has read about here on PNWRiders.com, but that will have to wait for another time. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm still...

A New Business Motto

Posted 02-27-2009 at 08:45 AM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

In my previous post about picture taking, I mentioned I had placed an order for one of these gems:

I placed the order on the 16th of February and waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, I couldn't stand it any longer. I had been checking my order status and it never changed. It was still saying that it was pending with no order confirmation or tracking number. To...

Getting Out

Posted 02-22-2009 at 12:34 PM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

To hell with this damned head cold I've been suffering from. I decided after some—really not a lot—of deliberation that I would go for a ride. Friday was pretty warm and there I sat in the house, stuffed up and oozing out of every orifice in my head. I'd been feeling crummy all week and had just missed one of the best riding days come this way since last summer. No more!

A good, long ride was what I was prescribing for myself. I had no idea where I was heading, but it was away from...

A Picture Taking Update

Posted 02-17-2009 at 08:39 AM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

In my Peace Arch Park post, I mentioned that,
Quote:
I've turned into quite the shutterbug. Riding gets me out to where the great pictures are and these digital cameras make taking pictures so easy. Without the cost of film being a factor, I don't give snapping a lot of pictures a second thought. And some of them have actually come out pretty good. Here's the problem, though. Let's say I see an awesome looking pond and stop to take a picture. Great! Now, when I get back home, how do I find out what
