Time without riding in my life.

Posted 11-13-2010 at 10:45 AM by Lone Rider

Have been in and out of riding several times in the past 40 years.
After a low speed spin out had Me laid up for a couple of weeks, I'm seeing another ride free time coming.
Mainly because I want to concentrate my energies to commercial fishing.
The money and time I like to spend riding is going to be over shadowed by running my own boat, plus being available for positions on other boats in other areas.
My little spill could not have came at a worse time both personally and professionally.
Really affected both the need to work on my fishing gear and availability for a couple of decent jobs.
Also the desire to ride keep my mind off what was happening in my industry and I missed several opportunities by my compulsion with bikes. My bad.
I have friends who can let their bikes sit while they run their businesses.
I dont have that capacity at the moment.

Itrs been a very fun run the past 8 years but the time has come to move on to other things.
This recent obsession started when I got 2 dirt bikes for Myself and my 16 yr. to ride to help heal after watching his mother die of cancer.
The dirt riding ended shortly after He became 18 and moved out.
Then it was a small commuter bike for a distant job. Which grew into a ZX14 commuting (YEHAAA!!!!) Then doing speed runs and track days. Then a track only bike which ended with a hospital stay and 4 months of recovery.
Then I did short tours and commuted the 14.
Was considering which way to go next for the past few months and then the spill while traveling to take care of my elder Mom and Dad.
That was the obvious sign it was time to put this big part of my personality aside and become immersed in family and fishing.
Even got my ladyfriend to consider life without the 14 after addicting her to its insane acceleration. (She used to be a dyed in the wool HD gal)
My adult daughter will be thrilled. (she rather I race only, no street)
My adult sons will be surprised but understanding. They both have fished with Me.
Figure I've spent easily $50k on this last motorcycle bender.
Money that looks good in times like these.
But the memories and especially the healing are priceless.
I'll probably pick up a project bike (or 2) to keep my hand in the sport.
But for a while, riding is out of the picture.
And so my involvement in this site will fade too.
Ride safe my fiends, Tom
