The GS Diary Day 63: Another gift from the PO.

Once again I'm scratching my head trying to figure out what the hell the PO was thinking (or smoking)

What started this was the box sitting where the voltage regulator belongs. It's a CDI from a 1980 GS850 and it's wired into the bike somehow.. going over the wiring diagram shows the coil outputs are hooked up to ?? The wires run off into a ball of tape.. the pickup lead is just taped off and left hanging.. I can't see how the hell this thing is doing anything.

My Old Friend: Part 9 - The Rebirth of an XT

Posted 11-02-2009 at 05:43 AM by Mic

Decisions Decisions Decisions. It has all come down to Decisions. The bike is up on its own wheels, carb is in place, exhaust is in place, and the wire harness is somewhat in place. All the pieces needed to start her up, and I just let it set. More time spent thinking, planning, measuring than actual work took place in this update, so it is short, simple, full of babble and a couple pictures to compliment it.

Part 8: Published 10-26-09

Finally seeing the bike take shape, and getting caught up, we see what stood as a skeleton of bare metal, start to take form of a motorcycle, but not without a hiccup here and there.

"Boy! What a weekend!

I was originally going to name this issue of MOF “The exploady burny” issue, but decided against that… And more on that later. Right now, lets jump right into things!"

Back to Basics - The Rain of Insanity

Posted 10-22-2009 at 08:26 AM by Mic

I see them. The gentle leaves falling to the ground, blotting out the once green neighborhoods in tones of yellow, orange and red.

Our sky's give in to the clouds. Slowly removing the blue from our sights, and replacing it with the dreary gray that has moved in, bringing with it, the pat pat pattering of rain gently striking the ground in rapid succession.

It's autumn in the Pacific Northwest. And while the people pack up their motorcycles, along with their lawn furniture...

Cheating With Four Wheels

Posted 10-22-2009 at 08:08 AM by Gamuru (The Path Less Traveled)

It's been well over two weeks since my last post. Why? I hate to say it, but with the change in weather, the bike has been parked for the most of it. I did manage to sneak away from work early last Thursday for a short ride. I was to be off on Friday and planned to do some riding, but Mr. Weatherman said it was going to rain. And, boy, did it! I'm glad I did get in what little riding I did. Had I waited till Friday, I would have either been really upset or really wet.

Eighty miles...

As mentioned in Part 6, this blog has officially moved over to my own personal blog site in order to not have to post it and format it for multiple sites.

A wet weekend of more time spent driving than working proves that even a little progress is good progress.

Made some parts for the GS1000

Posted 10-19-2009 at 01:45 AM by sschering

I got the lathe working today so I made a few parts for the GS.

They are new fuel transfer tubes for the VM26 carbs.. The old rubber hat seals were shot and they dont make em anymore so I made some O-ring type tubes..

For the T fitting I just made aluminum hats to replace the rubber seals.. I'll epoxy them in place..

WMRRA Round 8 - FINALLY TOOK THE TOP STEP OF THE PODIUM!

Posted 10-18-2009 at 11:54 AM by TaurusRacing

WMRRA Round 8, Last Round of the 2009 Season – Pacific Raceway and Adrenaline Freaks Track Day – Oct 2-4

Wow, what a year! I was able to achieve all my goals I set for this year…AND THEN SOME! The weather held out for EVERY round this year! I didn’t have one single rain race this year. I missed one round out of 8 and still was able to place in the top 20 overall in the WMRRA championship points. Over the year I competed in 3 classes. In all three classes I finished in the top five....

My Old Friend: Part 6 - The Rebirth of an XT

Posted 10-12-2009 at 07:15 AM by Mic

Do to the limitations of the blog software, I have moved my articles over to my own personal project site, where I will continue to update full articles.

This decision was made due to the increasing popularity of this project on multiple sites, and I wanted a single place to post to, and where linking was made easy. Because different forums have different mark up tags, this allows me to make 1 master copy, and then one stub to cut and paste to multiple forums without needing to change...
