Made some parts for the GS1000

Posted 10-19-2009 at 01:45 AM by sschering

I got the lathe working today so I made a few parts for the GS.

They are new fuel transfer tubes for the VM26 carbs.. The old rubber hat seals were shot and they dont make em anymore so I made some O-ring type tubes..

For the T fitting I just made aluminum hats to replace the rubber seals.. I'll epoxy them in place..

Hey cool! My buddies dad was a millwright for 40 years and I take parts for him to machine for me. I go over there one day and he is cutting his own gears for an RC car because they didn't make em anymore!

I think I burned about 3 or 4 hours making the first set but spent a lot of time getting a feel for the lathe, checking, measuring and checking again. Making a few mistakes. I trashed 3 pieces before I got the setup right.. (chatter will chew a piece up)

I learned a lot about grouping operations and minimizing tool changes too.

I made another set for the T last night and it only took 30-40 minutes. I needed to make the O-ring groove a bit deeper & wider.. It was less work to make a new set than try and chuck the little pieces.

There is a guy on Ebay that makes the T and sells em for $45

Just for fun I turned the centers down a bit.
Can you believe some guy in Ebay is getting $40 for each piece? $120 for the set. crazy
