My Christmas Gift Idea... Could use Boise's Help!
Hello Boise...

I am looking for some ideas... My sister-in-law and hubby live in Boise and are cruiser riders (Vulcan's I think). We draw names for Christmas for gifts and drew thier name out of the hat. My idea for a gift for them is to "plan" a weekend ride to a fun activity or getaway for next year's riding season. Maybe just a half/day ride, then some activities?

I was thinking McCall, Sun Valley, or the like... they are outdoor enthusiasts, and pretty much enjoy everything (incl. motorcycle camping), so I'm open to all ideas.

Are their any favorite festivals/activities you can recommend? Date?

Are their favorite roads/scenery or ways to get there?

Favorite accomodation for the area/activity?

What other activities could they expect to participate in during their stay?

Again, I'm open to all ideas, so if you have a moment, tell me what you think as you folks have some great suggestions I'm sure. I'm not much of a Christmas shopper, so I could use the help!
Thanks in advance,
Vig

I Ride: Your Mom, Your Sister, And Your Daughter if she's over 18. And when I'm not riding one of those you'll find me on my 2007 GSXR 1000
I-84 to Highway 21 through Idaho City, Lowman, and around throught the Sawtooths, Stay in Stanley and then drop down 75 to 26 back out onto 84 and home to Boise but you might have to wait till July to do that route depending on the road conditions and how much snow they get down there this year......

Here ya go;

They take a nice ride from Boise to Oxbow, then climb on a jet boat for a run up Hells Canyon.

It'll be a ride they'll never forget!

I'll add somethin' to it.... make the ride itself memorable as well as the initial destination;

After taking the ride up Hells Canyon, take another 2 days and ride home using this route;

Two good choices for overnight stays; Lehman Hot springs (between Starkey and Ukiah) or Sumpter, Or. I've stayed at The Depot Inn several times...great place. The owner Lilly is a sweetie. Lots of cool stuff to see in Sumpter while they're there..

Depends on how much time you have. Here are some ideas that haven't been mentioned above...

1/2 day or less kind of stuff
Emmett loop: Boise to Horseshoe Bend to Emmett to Eagle to Boise. This is a typical breakfast run for me. I'll eat in Horseshoe Bend, grab coffee in Emmett then turn back around and re-do the run from Emmett to Horseshoe then back to Eagle and finally home instead of looping. I'll loop if I'm in a hurry.

Whole Day Thingy
Dinky Town Loop: I have you on a bit of a interstate hop to Nampa from Boise. Living in Nampa, I can avoid the freeway completely when I do this loop. Most of the time I hit the lake then east side of the Snake (Map Rock Rd) then over to the west side of the Snake to Marsing then home for a quicky sweeper blast. For the longer ride, I'll hop over to Oregon and hit the dinky towns along the river. If I want more, I head up to the towns along the Payette river plain. There's stretches of straightness but you need to run those to get to the curvy stuff. I do this run to avoid traffic that seems to plague the mountain loops (Hwy 21 and 55).

I'll post more later,

Rob.

PS - That second link looks funny but it works.

Thanks you guys for your suggestions... they are all great.

I plan to use the them all in one way or another. I am going to get them a gift certificate to Hell's Canyon Adventures and make a small "book of suggested rides" with your ideas listed out with maps/directions/routes and some sights, activities, hot springs, etc along the way.

They are relatively new riders, so doing some of this sort of leg work for them may help them out and promote their riding. I am also going to include chamber of commerce links to various small towns within a days ride of Boise- there are a lot of fun activites listed on those, and some are on the routes you guys mentioned.

Again, thanks for your help, and rep given!

I compiled all the information and then had it spiral bound in a book- including a gift cert for Hells Canyon Adventures. I included all the rides that you all mentioned as well. I believe it was a hit, and they both wanted to thank all that contributed... so THANKS!

I just wanted to give you all some feedback and they (like everyone else) are looking forward to some riding when the weather is more cooperative.

Thanks again!

Sweet. Let us know how the ride(s) turn out. Don't post it here though, nobody will see it for years.

Later,
Rob.
