The idea: The thread would be placed as a sticky (hint hint bravura...please . So if you have something that you are ok with adding to the list, please post up, and let's help each other out.Tool list: -Manometer (Mercury, 4 cyl. or less) |

Ok, I re-read what you wrote and now I got it ![]() Last edited by Osufireman; 08-04-2009 at 07:05 PM.. Reason: wasn't thinking |

So if anyone needs to borrow a tool, post up here and if anyone is willing to lend a tool this is the place to help out another rider. We can all go to "the toolbox" to request a specialty tool, ask for assistance or technical advice and save everyone from searching multiple threads for answers. Tech questions and tool requests can now be found here. When borrowing tools, please return them cleaner than you received them and if you lose or break a tool please offer to replace it. "Please be kind & rewind". - |

Last night, as I was drifting off to sleep, I remembered I have a handful of those things you need to thread into your carbs to use the tool! Now I just need to find them. Took a quick look, didn't find them, will look again tonight or this weekend. I did find the registration for my first bike - a '76 Yamaha DT175. I think the DT stood for duct tape. Anyway, I don't think I've seen that reg since I got it in '89 or so. |

That is right, even if purchased tools aren't available sometimes they can be made. Now if we can just keep this thread on topic it could develop into an important resource. That said, anyone have any anti-gravity so my bike could lose a hundred pounds? |

If I don't go on one of the rides tomorrow we can do it whenever, if I go then we can do it in the evening after. Or I can bring the stuff to coffee in the morning and we can do it then. Just let me know. |

I want to drop the clip on the needles and re-tune the carbs. unfortunatly i have no tools. can anyone lend a flat area and some wrenches/ screwdrivers? i would be most appreciative. Thursday afternoon/evening/ night would be the best time for me. i have a final on Thursday so i want to be prepared... but need my bike for the ride I am going on Friday. DucatiChick, did you find those fittings? I looked on the internet and cant find anyone who sells them; do i need to get them from the dealer if you cant find yours? actually i think i am just going to have it done. i have some money now so i think i can afford to just have it professionally done. i don't want to waste my time by working on it and still not having it the way it should be... who would you recommend for doing my carbs... still need them done by Thursday or potentially Friday morning... which is the hard part about it. I have class all week and have a final to study for on thursday. but thursday at 2:00pm i will be starting the carb project. unfortunately i dont have a garage, or even a flat driveway to work on it. all i need is driveway where if i drop something it wont be lost forever, maybe a light(if i cant get it done before sundown) and a couple wrenches and screwdrivers(which i can probably borrow from a friend. if you can help let me know and i will be very happy, i'll get to go on my ride this weekend. |

Also have a 2-carb manometer and all the tools to do fork maintenance. I'm a machinist, and my shop is a few blocks away if something extreme needs to be done. Also willing to custom fab parts for cost of materials as long as it's not something insanely complicated and you don't plan to re-sell it, my labor is free to my forum buddies. Hit me up! I love to wrench. |

I am not a machinist but I can scab things together well enough with my inexpensive tools what with a little wire feed and a magic press lathe It should be super easy with proper equipment and an operator. ![]() Did you make the windscreen brackets on Xunal's EX? | Training Wheels Joined: Jul 2009 From: Independence, OR I Ride: 1990 Kawasaki 500EX-A4 | Nah, I don't have an in-house laser. I WISH! Soon, maybe. For now I have a Haas Mini-Mill vertical CNC machining center and a Haas TL-1 CNC lathe, and a myriad of other manually-operated beasts as well as your standard fair like grinders, sanders, saws and the like. The lathe is still shrink-wrapped as our new shop is scheduled for completion next month, and we haven't begun to move in yet. Once we get moved in we will also have a functional sinker EDM for making various oddly shaped cavities and such (not much practical use outside of mold making, but still a cool toy). And if I had made Xunal's brackets, they wouldn't be so messy I don't frak around when it comes to quality. |

I got my old tire off, the new tire on and I haven't had any problem filling the tire and having it hold air. I filled it to 60psi, replaced the valve core and refilled it to 40 psi. I ran my finger around the outside of the rim and it feels like it's seated, it holds air with no leaks (soapy water test). However, the tire bead never did 'pop' when I filled it. I've deflated the tire several times, pushed it off the rim and refilled it again with the same results, no 'pop'. Does a tire bead have to 'pop' to set the bead? |

| Pit Crew Joined: Jan 2009 From: North Albay I Ride: Tengai, V-Strom, and KLX439 | I assume you are using a lubricant like soapy water? If so then you may not get a real "pop" upon bead setting. It is normal. It also depends on how fast you fill the tire, which is related to the valve stem size and air hose capacity etc. Once again, it is normal for a tire to set without a "pop". If it really bothers you crank up the pressure a bit, come on down and we'll fire up the two stage , I bet we can get a "pop" out of it Just be careful with those new tires. |
