Seattle International Motorcycle Show - Train
I'm just tossing this out way in advance. The Seattle International Motorcycle Show is Friday - Sunday, December 11 - 13. I was thinking it would be fun to make a weekend of it and take the train up up to Seattle, spend the day or the weekend, and return either Saturday or Sunday.

If we do the Saturday round trip, Depart Albany around 6AM. Arrive in Seattle at Noon. Go to the Motorcycle show and then catch the train back at 5:30pm to arrive back in Albany around 11pm.

Weekend option would be to go up Saturday morning returning Sunday afternoon.

Train tickets are running $82 round trip.
Admission to the Show runs around $12.
Saturday night stay would add hotel around $100.

Post up if you are interested.

We're both in for the weekend option, sounds like fun.

Come on gang, leave the kids with the grandparents, take the spouse to Seattle for the weekend, nice train ride up, check out some bikes on Saturday, do a little Christmas shopping Sunday and nice train ride back.

ummmm, yeah...... the point of taking the train was so that no one has to drive to Seattle. We can let Amtrak do it for us.

As Bravura stated in his earlier post, we are a go for this. Sign us up.

Just an FYI:

We are taking the overnight option and making reservations at the Arctic Club Hotel. It is a Doubletree/Hilton hotel. Here is a link http://doubletree1.hilton.com/en_US/...ngton/index.do

Queen rooms from $89, Kings from $119 if paid for at time of booking. Their rooms are 100% non-smoking and they have in-room Starbucks coffee.

Reservation made!
I just made reservations for my wife and I at the Arctic Club for Dec 12. The rate is $119/night if you pay in advance (no changes or cancellation allowed) and $135 with a AAA discount; you can cancel 24 hours or more in advance, so we took the second option. Check in is normally after 3, but if the room is available, they will try to do it earlier. Also, they only have rooms with Kings available that night - sounds like they are busy, so if you want to do this, I'd make reservations early.

We're looking forward to it - the ideal motorcycle event for (my) wife - minimal bike exposure!

Cheers!

Seattle show
Just made my reservations so I'm in and will hopefully have my wife along. How long before the departure date do we need to buy train tickets?

I am planning on driving up there. I just got approved for press credentials for the International Motorcycle Show. So, I will be there to take pics and interview people. I hope to see you there. However, I will be seeing most of you at Albany Bike Night!

I think we are fine on the train tickets for now... Let's all get together and talk about it at the Corvallis Bike Night. I'm hoping for a train special next month which might drop the tickets a bit.

greetings all,

I think we may want to go ahead and purchase our tickets. The price has gone up to $56 for the early morning train(6:15am) arrives at noon vs $41 for the train that departs at 9:45am and arrives at 3:45pm.

We can return on the either train on Sunday at 2:20pm that gets in at 7:50pm or departs at 5:30pm and gets in at 10:45pm

I would like to recommend the following:

Depart Saturday at 9:45am (I'm not good with Mornings)
Return departure at 5:30pm.

We can arrive in Seattle, Check into the hotel, check out the show, and explore Seattle on Sunday or go back to the motorcycle show again on Sunday.

Thoughts?

Rick

Amtrak updated their website and raised rates, but that's a whole other rant.

We're into taking the early train, I'm not up for a 45 minute layover in Portland to arrive in Seattle at 4pm. Then we'll take the late train home so we're not clock watching all day and rushing to catch the 2:20 train home.

Train numbers etc
OK, I'm with Bravura - 0615 train up on Saturday (can nap on the train!), late train back on Sunday. Besides, part of this is for wives, right? Saturday is a better shopping day than Sunday, hmmm? To avoid screwups, I suggest that B specify train numbers etc. ASAP. That way we're all on the same page. Once we have those, we can buy the tix.

Sound good?

Itinerary
Sorry Rick, early rise and shine!!

Saturday, December 12, 2009
500 Cascades (ALY - SEA)
Depart:
6:13 am, Saturday, December 12, 2009
Arrive:
12:00 pm, Saturday, December 12, 2009
Duration:
5 hr, 47 min

Sunday, December 13, 2009
509 Cascades (SEA - ALY)
Depart:
5:30 pm, Sunday, December 13, 2009
Arrive:
10:46 pm, Sunday, December 13, 2009
Duration:
5 hr, 16 min

It would be great if someone with a AAA membership or other discount would be willing to buy the group tickets, and accept cash payment or check.

We are planning to go to the show Saturday afternoon/evening for a couple of reasons; vendors are usually tired, grumpy and just want to go home on the last day of a show and Sunday is 1/2 price ticket day for kids. I don't like the little snot nosed, sandwich grabbing, petri dishes at the best of times, let alone hopped up on sugar, fast food and candy at a motorcycle show while their owners are preoccupied with shiny objects.

Then we'll hit the market and go shopping on Sunday while everyone is in church.

It must be fast....it's not blue. Looks like it'd save you a fortune on tires too.

Needs forward controls.

Just bought show tickets online
Show tickets are now available online, I just bought and printed mine.

You can search online for promo-codes for ticket discounts
'CW' or 'RIDER' will give you $1 off as advertised in their magazines.
But 'scooterdiva' gives you $3 off.

So last night, R1Jackal graciously offered to stay home and watch the kids for ooeddym and Mrs. ooeddym, so both of them along with Mrs. R1Jackal can meet us at the bike show up in Seattle.

Isn’t that nice of R1Jackal?

You can get a good deal on a new Monster 696 right now... Then we can take her to the track and show her a few new tricks

If anyone would like them, I have a ton of $3.00 off admission discount tickets to the International Motorcycle Show (at any location). If anyone would like any of them, just PM me for my address. Send me a self addressed stamped envelope, and I'll send you as many as you like. If you want more than 10, probably best to send a seperate envelope per 10. They're about the size and weight of a small postcard each.

If you order tickets online, you can use the code "AlexHarper" to get the discount, too.

More tickets bought!
We went over to the station this afternoon and bought our tix. In case it applies to anyone else, you can get 15% off if you're 65 or older, and 10% if you are a AAA member. Reduces the cost a fair amount.

It's going to be a great trip!
