It would be an expensive venture for a one day tour so how about an event through out the summer? How many places we can try before October. It has to be on the coast, cause it ain't chowdah without the ocean. Post the name and link or address so we can all plan how many trips to the coast to make.... I'll update after their grand opening rally at the end of May. |

IF we go further north to Pelican Pub we can take 20 to 228 to 101 and come back via the Little Nustucca Hwy to 22 and back down through Kings Valley or 99W. I'm open to any option and how far people want to ride. |

It would add a few miles but it is a really nice motorcycle road. |

So, the good about today: Met some great people. Had some good chowder. Had a great time. The bad: I laid my Duc down....broke a mirror spring....damaged my pride. What kills me is that we had just started. This was maybe the second turn and I just blew it. My mind must not have been there. Oh well. First fall in 20+ years. Thanks all for helping me out today and it was great to meet you. I look forward to the next ride. Dennis |

You did pick a great spot to do it, nice and soft grass. ![]() We'll have to do it again, Daren I'll do a short report in a bit, dinner first.... |

For the record, I was sweep on this ride. ![]() ![]() We are going to have to come up with a Chowdah rating system, but in the meantime: IMHO: Luna Sea was alright, I was disappointed that it was not served in bowls to maintain the heat, but I like my soup piping hot. Flavor was good, not too salty, the whole wheat garlic toast was a nice change and the owner did accommodate our group by moving tables for us. Based on the Netflix rating system, I would give it 3 stars. 1 Star: Hated it 2 Stars Didn't like it 3 Stars: Meh... 4 Stars: Liked it 5 Stars: Loved it!!! - |

| Pit Crew Joined: Jan 2009 From: North Albany I Ride: Tengai, V-Strom, and KLX439 | Not much for pictures on this ride, I tend to not stop as much when in a group. But of course we have to start with this one,,,,after all it was less than 6 1/2 miles into the ride ![]() Gotta give Dennis credit, he did get right back on that horse and rode with us until lunch. Then he needed to get back so he took a left and rode north on 101.Here are the "mechanics" trying to reassemble the mirror at our first rest stop. They did get it together a couple of times but it didn't seem stable enough so it went back into the bag for the remainder of the trip. ![]() We then made it to Yachets for our date with ![]() Guess I should have taken the picture sooner but I was hungry And now for the review of the chowder. I too was disappointed with the presentation of the meal. For a sit down in the cafe, couldn't really call it a restaurant, the chowder at least should have come in a real bowl. The other thing that is nice for people eating chowder is a basket of crackers. But as was said before they did move the table to accommodate the six of us. Now for the food itself. The garlic bread was interesting, it's flavor was good but I want to know why the lady of the group got two pieces of bread while all us guys got one she must have ![]() No really her pieces were thinner so it all added up the same. The chowder was good. A bit coarse with the potato being overcooked and sloughing off into the mix. It was enough that I wouldn't be able to call it creamy or smooth. It also had a fair amount of garlic in it, not enough to overwhelm the chowder but enough to always be noticeable. This was a first for me, I've never had garlic in clam chowder. It did make it memorable though, I will not forget it. On a good note, they do not put bacon in their chowder. The staff, waiter and owner, were both very pleasant to talk to. The owner even came outside to talk with us while we were waiting for someone with an itty bitty tank to fill up,,,,,again ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So for my scoring based on the above system, well sort of Presentation of food 2 Food quality 2 Food flavor 3 Staff 3 So after eating lunch we headed south on 101 for a couple of miles to Cape Perpetua (sp?) where we took a left up to the lookout. What a view ![]() Yeah the picture sucks but what can I say.... After soaking up some sun and views we got ready to go. Dennis needed to be back home so he took off to the north while the rest of us continued south to Florence. After a quick splash of fuel we headed inland following the Siluslaw river. It took all I had to not turn off on North Siluslaw river road and follow it to 36, but alas that is saved for another trip. The trip on 126 to Eugene was fairly uneventful, except for losing the harley in Veneta, and we made it to the BMW shop shortly before 4. After looking, and getting sticker shocked (yep, I'm a cheap ass V Strom rider), we decided to head over to the accessory store. Got there just in time to see the owners get ready to drive off, they close at 4 on Saturdays for future reference. The ride home from there was a nice country ride, we managed to stay off the highway the rest of the way. So all in all it was a great day, put a couple of hundred miles on the bike. Met some new people, even met a neighbor. |

| Pit Crew Joined: Mar 2009 From: Philomath I Ride: 2003 ZZR1200 | No need to review the trip since we have a great review above. I have created a map of the route and it can be found at http://ridewithgps.com/route/1167. As for the chowder: I opted for the Slumgullian... normally shrimp added to the chowder but they added the twist of adding Crab as well and topped it with cheese. I found it tasty but agree with the other reviews that it would have been nice to have it in a bowl instead of a paper cup and warmer. Crackers would also have been nice as well. I would 3 stars and most likely would not go back for the chowder. The breakfast menu did look good and the staff was very helpful. All and all a very good day! |

Sometimes life is pretty good. Got to give it up to Dennis for finishing out the ride. I hope if I ever lay this bike down that I land in a nice soft pillow of grass and bark chips. As for the chowder, I agree with what was said before. I was surprised when it came out in a paper cup. If you are inside of a restaurant you should have your chowder in a bowl. I liked the flavor but then again I like spices added to my food. The wheat garlic bread was good and interesting but I agree with the cracker thing. I have to give it a 3. The search for the best chowder continues. E |

| Training Wheels Joined: Apr 2009 From: Corvallis I Ride: still debating...... | Well, it has been a few days since that first chowder run so I figured I'd pipe in with my two cents. I felt that for the money the food was not that great and the presentation was poor. I think that the chowder was microwaved (although the temperature wasn't hot enough). The soup at the edges of the paper cups had a skin on them like soup does when you microwave it and it bubbles. It was like they nuked it twice and didn't stir it after the second time. They could only bring out bowls two at a time, which also leads me to believe it was nuked. As for flavor to me it didn't really have any, just tasted bland. Nope, didn't even taste the garlic that others did. Mind you I feel that garlic is "the other white meat" so if it doesn't have at least a half dozen cloves in it I probably can't taste it. I didn't mind the whole wheat garlic toast but then, I like whole wheat bread. Why can't restaurants learn to toast their garlic toast on both sides? Must be saving pennies on the butter for that other side. In summary, here is my rating: Presentation of food 2 Food quality 2 Food flavor 2 Staff 3 Next......... -Brandy |

I saw all you folks stopped and chatting near the trestle on 53rd street as I was heading home from a mountain bike ride. At least I did get a ride in, it just was on one of my other two-wheeled conveyances. I'll try harder to make it for the next one. Sean |

This is not a 350 mile, all day, bring your toothbrush, excursion. I'm going to slowly meander so this is a good ride to bring your spouse, domestic partner, boyfriend, girlfriend and ride two up. ![]() ![]() Joined: Jun 2007 From: Corvallis, Oregon I Ride: '07 Triumph America & '76 KZ900LTD | Sea Hag We met at Creekside Coffee this morning and met with everyone going everywhere. Some went to Bend to test ride Ducatis, others went home for honey do projects and 10guy, Trobairitz and I went to the coast for chowdah. It was a nice, mellow, uneventful, meandering ride. The weather was perfect inland and on the coast and 101 traffic was...101 traffic. Depoe Bay was....Depoe Bay so we pulled around back, parked the bikes and went in through the back door. After choosing a table, I was asked if I had been seated and I said I was about to sit here. I was instructed to go stand by the front door and a host would come seat us. It was not terribly busy and there were several empty tables so once I explained to the nice waitress that I would be more than happy to find a seat in another restaurant the host promptly let us sit at the table I had chosen. On the Netflix rating scale: the chowder was a three star "Meh", service was a three star "Meh", and the restaurant itself......was a three star "Meh". I wouldn't cross the street to go back. Clam chowder ![]() Salmon and chips ![]() Fish sandwich ![]() Otherwise, the company was great, the ride was great and an overall good day. |

I didn't think she had it in her but I doubt she'll be getting that kind of mileage very often![]() It was a nice pleasant ride and I had fun riding at a sane pace for a change. Of course on hwy 20 it is hard to not ride slow with all the cages out for their "funeral procession" Thanks Trobairitz for the apt description |
