In its stock form its pretty mediocre, but I think it has potential. I'll bet its as capable as a SV.

I imagine it will sell as well as the SV.

Tubular trellis frame. Very nice. Hate the color combos, though.

Looks like someone's B-King got out of the yard and humped a Duc. The inevitable result was not a purebreed item of beauty.

Lame. If you are going to have a forged piece of something...make it real and not just plastic.

So, so, another take on the Monster.

But the name . . .it's got to go. I know they want you to think "GLADIATOR!", but it makes me think Gladiolas, a delicate flower that wilts easily.

the bike was a take off and was supposed to replace the SV650 in the future, so this year is a phase in/phase out for the other bike. Just what I was told by Suzuki reps at the show.

Notice the huge crowd of people hovering over it? Yeah I didn't either.

If Suzuki is replacing the SV650 with this they're making a big mistake...but that's their call.

I can't get a straightforward answer from suzuki's website but it appears to weigh more than the SV.

In general I think most people have said some things like: Slapped together, parts don't mesh with frame, ugly, bad color scheme, cool headlight but it looks like a scooter....

Of course it'll sell, but I doubt it'll have the following the sv650 does.

Its not replacing the sv650s ,its replacing the naked sv ;the people who buy the naked ver. is shorter people usually female they wanted to be catering to that demo graph.wile the sv650s (full fairing) is to get a make over upgrades rumored to be slipper clutch and suspension to start. make one better and add a budget bike to replace it ,sounds smart to me.

It's styling throughs me. If they are going after the more female crowd, it may do ok. It just does not feel very manly. Not that it should, but it's not for me. I would take an old nekked SV over this in a sec.

Looks like a poorly done, pastel Monster 696 copy? Why Suzuki would replace the excellent naked SV650 with this heavier, much uglier thing, I don't know?

Wow, the worst tail fender EVAR! Not only does it have the tail light integrated into it (making aftermarket a pita) but it looks like the TRUNK RELEASE is also integrated into the fender?!?!?! Brilliant fucking idea.

Oh, and yes, i agree, it's WAAAAAY too busy. Less is more people. And I CANNOT stand rear sets that integrate the passenger pegs. Retardo ugly. That bike is basically a design travesty.

I didnt think it was that bad until I thought about it. But that bike is offensive. blech.

Why do all the motorcycle designers think that, in the future, ugly is the new pretty?

Suzuki has never heard that. Look at any GSXR - it's just how they design them.

I do agree with that statement in general (Suzuki is the worst offender), but I'm talking about bike design in general. The competition to look different is creating these "busy" design. It is much more apparent on supposed 'naked' bikes which now have almost as much plastic on them as the faired ones do. sad.

That pipe would be the first thing to go. I am not a fan of any of the new bikes with pipes of that shape though. I will take a good old fashion round pipe any day over that horrible shape.

target market for the Gladius is female. it is the replacement for the naked SV, and is targeted to shorter riders, primarily female. I checked out the sales lit at Aurora Suzuki just after the dealers meeting a month or so ago. Almost all the pics in the glossy are of women riders.

I could tell it was aimed at females by the colors, but where is the naked bike for men? I want a new SV1000 with inverted forks and radial brakes!! Nevermind, I'll build my own.

I agree with most of u. I think it's ok for some, but not me. I'll keep my sv thanks. What they should have done was make it slightly lighter with a 750cc motor and clean sharp lines. Of course the bike must be lower spec to still be in it's market, and should be very capable on a track with suspension mods. I would consider getting rid of mine for that. Wait I already have that besides the motor I do think it's cool that there is something moderately fast for shorter people to choose from.

Why is everyone saying this bike is marketed cheaper? Add a grand to the price tag and you can buy a gsxr.

Wow, do you fail at math:

2009 Gladius 650 Highlights
Price $6,499.00

2009 GSXR 600 Highlights
Price $9,799.00

The Gladius is $500 more expensive than a naked '08 and $1000 less expensive than a fully faired 2009 SF.

If you want to get really technical I didn't specify new. I can buy a modded 2005 gsxr 750 with 3000 miles on it for $6500, for another grand I could probably get one with a few hundred miles on it.

I think its more a shot across the bow of Kawasaki's Er6-n which has been one of the best selling bikes across the pond for the last few years. it kinda like a Duc Monster and an Er-6n had a effeminate baby.

That aside, i think this category of bikes is great as it offers newer riders something to move up to from a starter bike without going full on supersport, which is too unfriendly in ergonomics for some (me included). Most people who want a Suzuki would undoubtedly pick this design over the dated Sv650n

If that was what they were shooting for.....they were shooting blindfolded backwards standing on their head! Kawi's Er6-n is not so bad lookin at all.

Oh sure change the pic right after I comment! Appearently I was looking at the wrong bike cause that is just as fuggin ugly!
