| Chicken Strips Joined: Jan 2009 From: Oregon | Wow! Today’s SMC ride was…….Epic! Was a little before 5pm before I got back to The Dalles. Places visited: Fulton Canyon, Wasco, Condon, Fossil, Antelope, Shaniko, back to Antelope, back to Hwy 218 for a 2nd helping, Antelope, Shaniko, Maupin, Tygh Valley, Sherars Bridge, Grass Valley, Moro, Fulton Canyon and finally back to The Dalles…Whew.. ![]() ![]() Thanks to SoupSandwich & Gnarly 928 for the ‘Spirited’ pace. We ran a little over 300 miles, much tread was lost, fuel spent, carbon footprint is about the size of Texas. Brrrraaaaahahahahahahaha ![]() ![]() Infidel, Mike, Mel, Twoferjuan, GS1200 & others; you guys should have been there!!! ![]() |

The switchbacks down into Maupin on Bakeoven road were covered with the normal gravel...so frustrating... Don Hanson |

| Chicken Strips Joined: Jan 2009 From: Oregon | Hell, every time I checked my mirrors there were the headlights of two Hondas dancing around, never got a chance for a Coke can break (inside joke ~ Cutback is laughing somewhere). Yep, Bakeoven did have the gravel; Sherars bridge was a little dirty too, but oddly enough Mr. Soup was picking up the pace. Reading road conditions is half the fun ~ trying to pick the best line to ride, not necessarily the best ‘track’ line. ![]() Soup & I were going to run up to Mt. Hood, but looking west, rain & clouds was plentiful. ![]() |

[QUOTE/]Sounds like you guys had a most excellent adventure....DUUUUUDE. lol I'm afraid I'd have slowed you up more than the normal pause though...was a good decision at coffee (with no coffee)... checked the pressure when we got back, and it was down 5lbs since last night. Gonna have to look for the leak before bringing it down to GS's to have the new shoes put on. Really felt odd not pulling out into the road with everyone, but we had a nice leisurely breakfast, dropped off the tires, and wandered back to the house. There was a wreck on 14 above Wishram (again)...and we were routed through town...so we meandered down to thesteam locomotive. Always knew it was there but never bothered actually looking at it. It's huge. On the way up the hill, we stopped and watched the world longboard championship for a few minutes at the Maryhill curves. Been kickin a quiet evening.... I wanna go ride :( |

Just give me a heads up when you'll have the bike or wheels here. I'm finding that mounting tires normally turns into a social hour or two. |

Trav will be back up on the 13th, so we were hoping you might be available that Saturday. I have a rear stand coming in, but I'll need to borrow Jackal's front stand. |

Made it all the way up Canyon Rd to Glenwood. There isn't much gravel before it's back to pavement ![]() ![]() I even picked up a huckleberry milkshake in Trout Lake! (so good!!!) Not quite as epic, but fun! |

I think some may be doing an ORP track day, so I am going to stop there on the way back after Shaniko, or maybe with a short run to Maupin first...depending..... I'll be swinging by the SMC spot about 10am, then off to Wasco, Condon, Fossil, Shaniko, a stop by the ORP for a look-see at how many people Moto Fit has booked for this weekend, and then back TD. If you haven't been on that loop...you owe it to yourself... Don Hanson |

Boy Howdy! are there some fun corners on those roads! I didn't swing by ORP as it was over 100f air temp....I know that shade is at a premium at the track there and the moving air was the only thing keeping me cool... About 250 miles, about 3.5hrs of ride time..fancy classic cars at Fossil made for interesting moving Chicane riding near the town.. No pics, so it maybe didn't happen.. Don Hanson | |

The Harley Owner's Group was there. "Moving road blocks" as far as the eye could see... ![]() Motor homes, camping trailers, sight seeing dingbats crawling along, the roads were PACKED... you get the picture. :So from that time on, I've taken a day off work and had the roads nearly to myself. Maybe you guys didn't run into lots of traffic, if not, you lucked out! Glad you had a good time! |
