has anyone here been given a ticket for improper license plate placement or for having an integrated taillight? has anyone taken it to court? any tips? tricks? ideas?

sounds like a fix-it ticket.

fix it, take picture, go to court handle it. they probably will reduce or drop the fine.

No.

I'd imagine it'd be like any other defective/improper equipment ticket, though.
Get it fixed, get proof that it's fixed (parts/repair receipt,) and take it to court with you when you go to talk to the prosecutor's office.

Not personally but have known a few people to get them. Pretty clearly stated in the laws whats allowed. As stated, fix it, and hope they reduce or drop it.

They arent very consistent on enforcing it but sometimes they nail ya for it

Turn signals aren't far enough apart, and the whole thing isn't DOT approved.
I thought about one for my C90, but figured I'd be pushing enough with the smoked tail light lens (again, not DOT approved.)

the part that buggs me is that his whole shpeel about the plate is that they are looking for guys "intentionaly" hiding their plate so they can run and how all the car wasp's get outrun so him being a bike cop was asked to help enforce the issue. he rambled on about how he was riding for years and could keep up with me in anything. i wasnt even speeding and obviously wasnt running. if hes so cocky about his skills he can catch runners and tell them how good he is and write them a ticket. im responsible regardless and i know that. ill fix it and see what happens but i think its bogus that i get a ticket even when not speeding or running

No. The tail light incorporates the brake light, and it's to be DOT approved.

IIRC, it's a minimum of 8"; it's in the RCW.

Yeah, with the red light or LED on, you can't tell if it's smoked. At least, that's what I'm counting on!

The plate position & lights were in violation of the law, thus the citation. If the officer had been instructed to crack down, well...

Okay, let me break your post down...

1. "His whole shpeel" - Would you rather that he just write you the ticket without saying a word? He's right, that's what they're looking for. More people do it than you think.

2. "Catch runners and tell them how good he is" - And how cocky does that sound? If it was who I think it is, he would school most riders I know, and he's been riding track since I was in Junior High.

3. "It's bogus that I get a ticket when not speeding or running" - Okay in parts: (a.) You get a ticket for whatever law you are seen violating, have a problem with it, write your state legislature and tell them about the big bad WSP's that harass moto riders, oh....and guard the governors mansion. (b.) If you were running, you would get more than a ticket. (e.g. Jail)

i understand completely that it was my fault and ya ill pay for it if thats what it comes down too after i go to court. i guess maybe what i was trying to say was that i guess its difficult to take in a cops ribbing and telling me that i was trying to hide it because my kind runs from cops when i followed the law to a t (except the plate thing) and tried to be polite about the best i could but still get spoken to with a tone that is disrespecting to me.

Yea I got stopped last year. He told me he couldn't see my license plate, then another leo pulled up and I asked him if he could see my plate he said Yes! Talked to a few people that said they stop you just to check your papers/license etx. Good luck in court! Like they say/said fix it!
