| ted sux | So if you weren't a student you would buy things for more $$$? No! This is the mentality that makes Wal-Mart one of the strongest companies in the world. "I am too broke to support local business, but other people aren't." I don't car if you make $10k or $100k+ per year, you're still not going to pay more than you have to for something - because you don't value local business. Plain and simple. It's disgusting seeing the responses here. |

I would most definitely have supported local shops more if I had more money to burn but that's just not right now for me. Some people are just cheap by nature but not all of us are Wal-Mart lemmings.

| ted sux | Hey, if you can't afford gear, you can't afford to ride, right? Riding a privilege, not a right - don't think it's owed to you. IF you wanted to support local business, you would've found stuff on sale, or found a retailer to order in what you wanted and sell it marginally over cost - but you didn't. Instead you f*cked yourself and our economy by giving your money to someone in India or wherever they can get internet advertisers for the lowest dollar. You clearly don't understand economics in the least, and are too selfish and short-sighted to care. Yeah, these are harsh words, but this is a serious societal problem that no one wants to take the blame for. My own parents shop at Wal-Mart, and would likely buy things online if they could save money - they are wealthy. The amount of money you make doesn't make it an easier to dole it out - it's your money and you earned it. What you have to realize is that while the short term benefit is more money in your pocket, it's reducing your income in the long run by more than you saved. |

If I buy anything here locally in spokane it's something small. This town is so horrible that they don't even have the respect to give the military discounts for purchasing things in town.....I'm from a military bases community and no matter where you went there was always a military discount which basically just took care of the taxes....and I don't wanna hear shit about fairchild is to big for spokane to do that becuase Barksdale is 4 times the size of fairchild and we still did it. Basiaclly get off your high horse and open your eyes to the community around you. most people in this town don't even make over $12.00 an hr. and if Joe blow has to shop online to get his shit cuz it saves him 10 bucks so he can ride 20 or 30 more miles this season so be it. I don't care where you are from, what you do, or how much money you make, or where you shop, as long as you ride you are cool in my book! |

I'm not the only one, I see people every day that buy local, and even more importantly from independent business. It's not a high horse, it's a problem with society. No one thinks they make enough money - no matter what you make.

Sure I could get parts and gear cheaper online but because I've built a relationship with a local shop when I need service they hook me up. And I don't feel I'm getting a bad deal from them anyway. |

| WMRRA Qualifier Joined: Mar 2006 From: Spokane, Wa | correct we don't carry gear in stock, to many places in town locally owned that do. I send people to westside, allsport, geared up, even cycle gear, D&B, KDR,mikes powersports,, the list goes on. I also send away the guys looking for $50 savings they found online. When shipping/handling ends up costing them the same as 10% military discount, and every shop in town gives a 10% military discount. We are service and repair/insurance rebuilding, specialty shop. But also the relationship we form with our customers, every customer is important, if something we sell and install does not work, we make it right. Try that with online places. If you buy tires online, have a shop install them, (since most include installation in the price) you will see that they end up costing about the same price, might save $20. But if you purchase from local shop the tires, they install, they adjust your chain, check your brakes, etc. etc. Not to sell you on $20 savings but added value service is priceless. I see ted's point, and he is not mad because someone did not buy from him, just like if someone takes there bike to another shop for service I am not mad. But all to often people purchase online thinking they saved something, well all the shops purchase mainly from the same distributor, well 3 distributors, all pay approx. same price. some get discounts on things others don't but basically the same, I can tell you one thing for sure, the shops in town are not making huge profits on stuff trust me there is no margin compared to what other business's make If you have a place making 30% mark-up your selling some of those items above retail in the catalogs! When you see things online at newenough, JP, etc. those are usually close-outs, one-offs, mis stitched, blem items, sometimes yes you cannot tell but other times you find your suzuki patch sewn on upside down!. |

| ted sux | Yeah, I don't care if you buy from me - that's why I'm not a site sponsor. It's that fact that someone said they go into a dealer and try stuff on, then order it online, and they see nothing wrong with that. That business had to pay for the gear, had to pay for the real estate, the utilities, and the staff and you paid none of it so you could save $20. I'll remember that when I want to save a couple bucks in whatever business you're in. This isn't about me, buddah, or any one person. It's a problem with priorities and responsibilities. |

on that. I buy online, offline, Idaho, Spokane and Seattle. I try to support local whenever I can, but some things you can't get in Spokane. Not every brand is represented. nor do they carry a broad range of sizes. I'd LOVE to always walk in, slap the money on the counter and walk out with stuff in hand. Instant gratification rocks.
