There's a cushioned part that goes on too. I had to cut the whole thing short to get it to fit, so I have to get the upholstery redone. |

The bikes listed on the left are mine except the RD400F Daytona Special, which is Kevin's. It's not on the road yet, awaiting restoration (hopefully to begin) next winter. All are in running condition except my Avatar Cafe bike is apart again for some final fittings of custom pieces needed to be made to have brakes on the back, and a new fairing bracket I'm trying to fabricate without much success....I need better tools. I could afford some if I quit buying bikes. At the limit now, no more room! CuriousBob, nice little GT. I was going to go with a Glass from the Past seat but decided at the last minute to have a Cafe seat made to the stock pan @ Sargent's in FL. I've gone that route before, not as cheap as GFTP, not as expensive as Corbin (which won't do that kind of custom work anyway) and much less hassle, plus their quality is outstanding. It will be sent in next month when I have the extra $$$$. Here's the latest pic of the other RD350. The side case was off for a timing check. Below that are the littlest ones, the RD60 when my Nephew was learning to ride on it, and the RD125 when I first brought it home last year. Kevin can post the RZ350 since it's his favorite. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Quicklimegirl; 05-14-2007 at 06:49 AM.. |

They UK guy you're speaking of is Allen Millyard--I believe that's how his name is spelled. He does fantastic work, and get this, all with hand tools. Unbelievable, the guy is totally amazing. He's done several types of bikes besides the inline 5 Kawi "triple" and of course from a side view you can't really tell anything's been changed...that's the genius of his work. I think he also made a V8 Kawi 4-stroke using two Z-1 engines, except I think the barrels were from KZ650's instead of Z-1, but still beautiful work. I've heard a lot about CR500 engines. Sitting on my porch now in true white-trash fashion is the somewhat forlorn looking rolling chassis from a '74 TX500. No engine, carbs, or pipes, but otherwise totally complete. I figured for $50 it was worth it, being titled, and the fact if I gave up on resurrecting it I'd have a spare set of forks & other stuff for the RD's. However, there's plenty of room in that frame, which all along I said I wanted to fit a CR500 motor into. How I could run that past the WSP without problems is another matter..... I have enough projects lined up right now to last me for the next 5 years....or in my case, as slow as I work, for the next 20..... | |

I didn't get to see the pics earlier at work, the Network blocks a lot of jpg content. They're like potato chips, you can't have just one! I guess Kevin didn't see this thread, so I'll post the other ones: Kevin's Daytona, and my RZ. The FPP Chambers are off the Daytona, we're getting 'em welded to accept much smaller Toomey Banshee silencers; also took the full bodywork off the RZ, too much hassle when you need to do maintenance. ![]() ![]() |

On bikes w/o such built-in mounts, it depends on the type of fairing. I have a small quarter fairing not on the orange RD right now, precisely because the old mounts I have aren't real well made. For small ones like that, they can be handlebar mounted. A lot depends on the weight & structure of the fairing. For my blue (avatar) bike it's frame mounted, and I'm also trying to come up with better mounts than the crudely made, not so well fitted ones that came with it. I don't have any "secret" you just have to envision what might work and try to make them. It's difficult w/o any decent tooling, and I'm not done with either, but I'll try to remember to PM some pictures if/when I get ones made to my satisfaction to help with ideas. Really, it might be easiest to find an existing, model-specific mini fairing with it's actual factory framework, and then make some type of adaptive bracket to mount that framework to your bike. Let your imagination be your guide! |
