| Streetfighter | Itchy cops are the best reason to dodge college towns. The parties generally make up for it though, so I guess you have to take the good with the bad. |

| Streetfighter Joined: Jun 2006 From: Ellensburg, WA I Ride: 2001 Yamaha YZF600R, 2002 Honda CRF450R | as I said before, welcome to ellensburg... it's not getting worse, it's been this way since 1989 when i moved here at the age of 5... when i got my licence, i was pulled over 18 times between 16 and 18 years old, and 16 of those were after 9 pm... you just learn to get used to it and know that if you do anything out of line, they WILL pull you over. The reasoning behind it all is DUI patrols... it used to be that an offender would get out of a DUI because the officer pulled them over after profiling them and it would hold up in court because the stop was typically made for one of those silly things (25 in a 20, tail light out, failure to signal lane change, failure to signal 100 feet before a turn - i love that one) and then in court the judge would throw out the case because the officer had rarely made that stop before, therefore his purpose was simply to see if the driver was intoxicated, and they can't do that legally because it's discriminatory and profiling. So, in order to battle that situation, officers were instructed in Ellensburg and kittitas county to pull over any suspect vehicle for any reason, which they can do. This way once the offender comes into court, he can't plead profiling or discrimination because the officer has a high number of stops for related offenses. Make sense? Ellensburg is a DUI town, they are generally looking for those. This is why that billboard at the west interchange says how many DUI arrests they've made in the past year... something like 600+ Just take my advice and ignore them by following the rules in town. Out of town is a different story because you can almost expect that in the evenings, all departments (WSP, county, city, and campus) are all on DUI patrols in town (except for the freeway on friday and saturday nights, but only close to town, never out aways because they have to get back quickly for DUI patrols). |
