I have an Arai helmet that I bought in Japan that does not have a DOT sticker. It does have a SNELL approval and it is the same as the US helmet as far as I can tell except for the DOT sticker. I understand that strictly speaking this is illegal for road use in the US but if I were stopped with it on my head would an officer really push the issue?

Thanks.

Hi Guys,, thanx for being a part of this forum. its always interesting and enlightening to to hear what you have to say from your perspectives.
Question: what percentage of your time on an average day is spent on traffic enforcement duties?

Hello -

I am one of those people who hate it when non carpool drivers are driving in carpool. So of course I take down plates/make/model/color/location/date/time etc and report it online at least 2x a week, sometimes 2x a day. Also I emailed state patrol about drivers in carpool and my concerns but did not get as much information as I was hoping for.

My questions are:

1. Does state patrol have a requirement *or duty* to patrol areas being reported to have frequent HOV violators?
The area I am talking about is from Renton to the port on 405. They patrol *and quite well* that area in the morning going northbound and in the afternoon going southbound. But I am looking for the opposite.

Cheers!

Tonight I was cruising home from corvallis to warrenton. I was on highway 26 doing 60mph and at times slightly over to pass.

A silver car came up on me and tailgated me for about a half mile to a mile and I couldn't do anything because there was a slow green car in front of me.

A short passing lane came up and me and the tailgater (spelling?) got around the slow green car. He continued to tailgate me and then another short passing lane came up. He went around me and (i think 3) cars were behind me and he was in front of me.

We are coming around a blind corner when suddenly two vehicles going the opposite direction pass by, by this time the tailgater is maybe 150 yards in front of me. Instantly when I saw the two cars going the other direction the second car going the other direction's police lights came on which triggered me to look and I was going exactly 60 according to the speedometer.

I contined my direction as I went through the blind corner and nothing behind me happened. I pulled away from the cars behind me and approached more ahead. about a mile or so goes when I see another car tailgating me. Suddenly police lights and I pull over.

I think, "Oh well, he will tell me to slow down" as I was only going 5 over (60/55)

He comes up and says "hello my name is officer (i will leave his name out) with the oregon state police. I am stopping you for your speed. 72 in a 55.

:shock::shock::shock:

I am absolutley positive I wasn't going 72. There is no question abut it. I don't think the cop is lieing when he said his radar showed 72, but I do belive the car in front of me was going 72.

So my question is:
He didn't fill out the base fine. Does this help me.
He didn't fill out the part where a second officer can sign, but ther was a second officer.

And how often do tickets get dropped on average? I am going to fight this, as I can't afford increased insurance rates and ticket for a speed I am not just a little sure I wasn't going, but I couldn't be more positive.

Oh btw, my girlfriend was with me and can verify all of this.

Thanks for any input you can give and sorry for the very long story.

If he had an ID with our address on it, mail or ? is this considered family by "household members" or ?

how is this law looked at and handled by a patrol officer?
we parents seriously get tired of doing all the driving.
Officer asks the driver if he can search the car, as do most officers. Driver agrees as he has nothing to hide. Driver steps out. Another officer asks the passenger to step out so he can be searched, passenger asks why and then says he does not want to be searched, They then proceed to pull the passenger out and hand cuff him and search him. Of course its obvious they found something but to my knowledge, He has the right to refuse the search and any evidence they found would be invalid because it was found without a warrant. Im not sure how the whole "Probable Cause" racket goes but i was just curious to hear some officers input on this situation.

This morning I was traveling to work with 2 other riders and we were in a very close staggered position. We were traveling down hill at roughly 75 in a 55mph zone. (new road to us and didnt see posted mph sign initially) Granted we were speeding and we are aware of this now. A State trooper was at the other end of the valley opposite of us on the uphill @ roughly 200-250 yards away. He was directly infront of us and his line of sight only projected the first bike and not the other two. Naturally and justifiably so, we were pulled over. Thats not my problem... The officer made a manuever directly into my lane stopping right in front of me requiring me to come to a slidding stop and made another experienced rider go off the road into the ditch; to avoid hitting me and the officer. Which damaged some of the plasics. The officer said (QUOTE) "I knew you could slow down in time" "You stopped didnt you?" (end quote) He pulled me over and my friends with his pistol drawn yelling at us to take our helmets off and take the keys out of the bike. (i can deal with that) We than explained to the officer there was no real good reason for the speeding other than enjoying the sunny afternoon and not paying close enough to our mph and we understand if we must receive a ticket. This is the fun part. The officer was very polite as were we and everything was going along smoothly. Until he got the placement of riders out of order, the information for the bikes under the wrong person and also said due to us being so respectful he would write us all the same ticket for going 10 over due to clean driving records and due to 2 of our jobs (CDL drivers) being dependant on clean records or at least low mph tickets. We thought that was a great deal and were happy to get treated that way. Than we all looked at our tickets after he pulled off and realized he wrote one for 78 in a 55, one a 73 in a 55, and the other a 69 in a 55. How when we are riding in one group all cruizing at the same speed can the officer come up with such drastic differences in speed and also how can he get an accurate reading with a radar gun at that distance when his line of sight is blocked and with such assurance that he got all of us and not the same person slowing down? Not only that but the bike in the rear was supposedly going faster than the one in the middle but the middle was slower than the front? Im just confused and wanted some insight. It is even accurate to say someone could do that? he was in his car while we discussed our drivers/military/ and negotiation of speed info with him so im sure it was all recorded. Also in the state we were in you dont sign the tickets. They just hand them to you and say pay or show up to court, nor do they tell you what to pay. You have to call before your court date to find out payment. Any insight or comments? Other than slow down naturally.. we have learned that one. Were not speed demons. Just weekend warriors.
