Back in the 50s and 60s, there weren't a lot of motorcycles, both being manufactured and being ridden. When you came upon another rider, it was a rarity, almost a special thing, a person with the mechanical ability to keep the old bikes on the road, a desire to ride in all types of weather, a true biker, and you acknowleged it, you waved. Now here we are today with our boutique Harley shops, thousands of new newbys, most who couldn't change their own oil or much else, and a situation where you can't go two blocks on a nice day without some guy on a bike waving. I'm tired of it! Call me an asshole, but I'm done! Wave your ass off- I'm not waving!!!!! There, now that felt better- you all have a wonderful day

I'm usually in a good mood when I ride so when someone waves to me I wave back. Then I think that there are so few people that will even acknowledge that you exist when you walk by them, much less smile, say hi or God forbid wave at you. Holy Crap the world is coming to an end!!!

First off, why don't try your little cry baby session in the discussion section where it belongs. People are trying to sell & buy here and you're wasting space.
Second, nobody cares if you wave or not. Those of us that do wave are just showing respect because we share a love for the road and for being on two wheels.
I tell you what, instead of being such a PUSSY ( real men speak up, face to face) why don't you pull up next to ANY of us on the road and tell us in person how much a "wave" bothers you and I guarantee the you'll figure out where you can stick it.
What a sad life you must live.

Perhaps he would prefer a one finger wave instead?

Hell, I wave to scooter riders, I don't care what you ride or weather you can fix it or not, your on two wheels, and we need more of us on the road.

Waving is not just about saying hi or showing respect. It also makes the other vehicles who don't know better think we are all in the same group. That way they will think twice about cutting you off!

It is a good way to get other people besides motorcyce riders to notice you. Better than those BLINKY lights. . . but that is my peev and could be started in another thread.

Bottom line if someone wants to wave great, if not, that is their choice. MANY more worthwhile things to get irritated about!

Oh and I second the earlier:

He's got a point. It is kinda meaningless these days.

(I do it anyways cause it doesn't feel polite otherwise but really, it is kinda meaningless these days. It is kinda like when my parents bought a Saab back in '82 they were not common cars so if you saw another one you flashed your lights cause, hey, how often do you see some one else with a Saab. Then they got really popular and you saw them everywhere. Then that stopped cause, well, you see saabs all the time, it's not all that unique to see some one else on a Saab *shrug*).

Plenty of meaning in it for me still. On my daily commute I'm not a wave at every rider on the road...especially on I-5, but when i'm out on a long ride and see a rider out in BFE with me it's an acknowledgment we're both sharing the same existence, on that road away from the rest of civilization.

Eastern WA=those type of roads. We all wave to each other. We're nice people...deal with it.

I'm guessing the CL dood is a city dweller who had his soul sucked away many years ago. Sad, really. Thats part of why I left.

To be fair...it's more important for me to be paying attention to the morning rush hour traffice than it is to be looking at the other side of the freeway for other riders. Not really has anything to do with souls being sucked out of anyone.

When I'm driving my lowered GMC truck, I wave to other lowered trucks. When I'm flying a helicopter at work, I wave to other helicopters. Usually they're too far away for me to see the other pilot wave back, so I don't know if they like it or not. And, of course when I'm on two wheels, I wave at everyone else on two wheels. I'm just too friendly.

I'm near giving up on waving at bikes here in WA, of all the bikes I've passed and waved to since we've move dhere I've had maybe two or three wave back to me, and of the three 2 of the waves were from the exact same Buell on the exact same strech of 3 between the Hood Canal bridge and Paulsbo.

Seriously I'm convinced that 90% of the people on bikes on the roads around here are either lazy, or assholes.

At that time mentioned in the ad, the common "wave" was a middle finger for the obvious attitude- but with good nature intended too.

Don't believe me? Crack open an old Easyriders or any real Biker rag of that time and see what most of the visual salutes were.

We as a Biker culture have gotten so PC it makes me ill...stop trying to please a demographic (Cagers=Public) that have no interest in your character/religion/status, but would vote you off the road if they were given a chance at mob rule.

They will always be annoyed and hate us- so, FTW!

I beleive that we are all looking out for each other - as if family. I would be there for a fellow biker anytime. We have the same love of freedom and feel on two wheels. If another biker doesn't wave back, too bad. They just must not be as nice of a person as iam or dosen't care to represent us all as freindly people. Riding always makes me feel good and i will continue to wave regardless and continue to support my fellow bikers.
