Your next bike
I came across this bike/scooter that is electric but has very good handling.

Enertia Bike

What is your opinion? Does it have any good future?

How about a race bike

Oh I don't know maybe the excessive C02 emissions or the fact that our natural resources are slowly being burned away. That might be it.

Those are built in Ashland, like 10 miles from here...

Saw one cruising around, pretty bad ass if you ask me. Great for a commuter bike. I would only ride a race fairing type honestly.

I really like the trend and would love to try one out sometime. Seeing the FIM setting up an electric racing series is also exciting.

I was looking forward to riding a ZERO at the USGP but it seemed like they were overwhelmed and pulling back or something. First it was rides anytime, then between certain hours. I was hanging out in their booth for a while and nobody said word one to me so I said "fuck it". They will have to step up their game with competition entering the market.

I can see small-scale wind farms and solar panels eventually powering our two-wheeled toys.

I rode the Zero at the USGP and was not impressed. Slow, Handled poorly. The Vectrix scooter on the other hand was great but I bought a MP3 500 instead.

Any idea on the price for one of these? The 45 mile range is not long enough for me.

They're going to be around $12K. Priced for being on the bleeding edge. Remember $20K plasma TVs? It'll be interesting to see how they sell. Having them at Best Buy could tip either way.

Faster than an electric scooter, for sure lol.

If I had a commute, I would totally rock one. Ride 35-40 miles to work, plug it in while you work, ride home at the end of the day.

The high pitched dc motor whine almost sounds like a 600 at the limiter
make it go 100mph and 100 miles I will buy one

I don't know, even if it did you could never go on a group ride on the thing. Hey guys I need to refuel, mind waiting 3 hours...

I also don't use my bike to commute so it doesn't answer that question either.

If your truely believe that, maybe you should do your part and sell your not so eco friendly rides and go green rather than living a life as a hypocrite.

That would be perfect for my commute. Like someone said - it'll be interesting when the price goes down. Electric bicycles are pretty common now as it is. I wouldn't give up my regular ride, but if it'll keep my fun motorcycle from racking up commuter miles I'm all for it.

And you can't beat plugging it in on the company's dime instead of gassing it up on yours.

Interesting - thanks for sharing!
Looks like it goes about as fast as my scooter - which is plenty fast for my city commute with a 30mph speed limit.
Of course it is too expensive right now, but maybe that will change. It couldn't be the only bike in the garage!

I try to do my part as much as I can. I intern at a LEED certified architecture firm and ride my 40 MPG bike to work everyday instead of a car. I love the internal combustion engine I just dont get why people put these bikes and cars down some much. Welcome to our future.

I love how dirty dumb ass hippies think that electric vehicles don't have any sort of pollution.

Agree with VFRtard though

If you are going to talk about Green like it's the new black, sell your evil combustion bike and ride a bicycle to work.

I would go lightweight small displacement gas before I ever go electric

www.derringercycles.com
www.fxcycles.com
www.scorba.com (their 4tricks with adult tires)
or even the Sachs XRoad 125cc

If all these hippies are so concerned about the enviroment, they should do everyone a favor and quit reproducing. Save gas bikes, quit yer breedin.

I like the racebike better. Looks like a proper motorcycle.

If they can get batteries that last, hold a consistent charge and charge quickly (w/o blowing up on you), that might be a good option.

electric motors are torquey as HELL. but then I'd figure the power would taper off like a small toy that gradually goes slower and slower. The first 1/4 mile should be a ripper though, right?

Even though there is no pollution pumping from the tailpipe of an electric motorcycle (there isn’t even a tailpipe). That does not mean it is not having an environmental impact.

After all, that electricity has to come from somewhere. Here in the Pacific Northwest, where hydroelectric power reigns, it is a much cleaner choice than other parts of the nation.

In states such as North Dakota, West Virginia and Wyoming the the majority of their electricity is coal-generated creating atmosphere-bound pollution. However, the amount of electricity used for a small vehicle like a motorcycle is minimal, making it's "carbon footprint" substantially less than a traditional motorcycle even when the electricity is derived from coal.

Nevermind the batteries in that electric bike are just as hazardous to manufacture as gasoline and require even more petroleum products than gasoline does per mile of operational output of the vehicle.

Also, batteries degrade very rapidly, even the latest lithium polymer batteries only offer 1000 cycles (defined as any discharge and recharge of any type) before they start to lose peak amperage delivery rates, voltage, and capacity. Also, the control circuits for these batteries, if lithium based, will often times manually restrict the cells long before they actually begin to degrade, ie 1000 cycles in. I've personally done a fair amount of work with various rechargeable technologies, and frankly, the one that stood out as the most robust isn't being used here (Nickel Metal Hydride - shelf life over 5 years and 2000 cycles on modern parts vs. 2-2.5 years and 1000-1250 cycles for any Li-tech cell)

The only saving grace is that the Valence cells don't explode when damaged, but also lack up to 25% of the capacity of standard Li-po formulations.

Yeah, in the short term, once built it no longer directly requires fossil fuels to operate, but remember that electricity is generated using something as a "fuel" source, be it nuclear, fossil, hydro, solar or wind. So if this bike is powered only by wind, solar or hydro... You fill in the rest, I'm tired of typing. ADD and all

Look if we're all really really uptight about CO emissions and pollution from engines... quit racing, all of it. Next, kill trucking, (grow your own shiat in your own back yard, and forget about deliveries or commerce) Next quit your job and quit commuting, next start tackling that hot air by quitting your CO2 emmissions....

I know I would feel better. Do it for mother earth, already.

hydrogen burns hotter than gasoline, screw electric, why not look into more hydrogen powered vehicles? isn't it basically inexhaustible?

I'd rather see a biodiesel bike than this. You're still reliant on coal energy to charge the things. Pure electric has no future.

Life would be better if everyone rode motorcycles. And in lieu of a car, make a trike bike with a roof for the kiddies lol

Seriously we're running out of oil fast. Show on science channel about alaskan lines said they'll be depleted in like 20 years if I remember right. I'm not a wrench turner enough to turn my klr into a bio diesel, but if a manufacturer started making them, I'd get one.
