My tire has a flat spot...
I noticed that my front tire has a flat spot when I propped the front end of the bike up and spun the tire freely. I can notice the tire moving slightly up and down against a stationary background. How bad is this? My bike doesn't really sit all that much, and it was balanced by barry in covington. The tire is a dunlop qualifier with about 40-50% tread remaining.

What are the negatives of running a tire with a flat spot?

Warm them up nicely with a spirited ride and check again usually it's just from sitting cold and goes away on it's own, unless you are a madman and lock the front for long distances
Plus..Tires get more round by being spun quickly they aren't really perfect, that's why they need to be balanced in the first place
If it was a real issue your ride would suck like having a flat

When I ride in the winter I notice the flat spot on my tires actually causes some "bounce" until it warms up. That's extreme though, at 30 degrees or less. The ones you get at 60+ degrees should come out pretty much as soon as you start riding.

Welcome to the world of Dun Flop!
I bought a very expensive set of Dunflop Elite lll's and the front tire has had a vibration all along. I balanced it to find the same description. The store wouldn't exchange, or refund me one cent.
So I ride with a front end vibration.

Troubles?
YES, there are issues with the safety of the tire. High speed is dangerous since the available traction is reduced, and slow it becomes a mirror issue.

I will never again buy Dunflops and will at every opportunity tell others.

I had an avon storm and I changed to my dunlop roadsmart in the rear and qualifier in the front. The avon was a pretty good tire for the first half of its life. However, it spun a lot once it got older. It's fun to spin a tire though..... Roadsmart is a better tire.

Just add a little more air to that spot and it should take care of that. Just be sure not to add the air to spots that don't need it or you'll have a bump AND a flat spot on your tire.
