The VW driver was talking on a cell phone when she pulled out from a side street, apparently not seeing the motorcycle. The riders reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 20 feet from where the collision took place. All three involved (two in the car and the bike rider) were killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at the Motorcycle Fair by the Police and Road Safety Department. Pass this on to car drivers or soon to be new drivers, or new motorcycle owners AND ESPECIALLY EVERYONE YOU KNOW WHO HAS A CELL PHONE!!!!! A picture is worth a thousand words Stop talking on Cell phones and Texting while trying to drive. Put your Cell phone in the back seat !!! |

| beansbaxter is too lazy to come up with something but he will get to it, eventually... ![]() | Based on what was posted, I agree speed was a factor, but based on the info above and damage done to the car, it could be easily deduced that even if the bike was going 20mph slower (possibly within the speed limit depending on location) this STILL would have happened. However, clicking the link below, the other article claims he was going 155. So if we take something in between (which is probably closer to the actual speed) say 120 then ya I would agree the biker is at primary fault as his closing speed is just beyond anything an average driver is prepared for, not to mention a DISTRACTED driver. Still, they are only addressing part of the problem when it comes to preventing general car/bike collisions by only bringing this demo to moto shows. It's a two way street...Drivers need just as much of a sobering up as bikers. ( No pun intended.) Last edited by OOk; 10-30-2009 at 12:09 AM.. |

A) its not a very solid car B) the distance from one side of the car to the other at 155 would be covered in miliseconds, the inertia of the car would not allow it to take that impact and hang on to that motorcycle... |

This is too important to leave to one posting. This is the first time I've seen it. This should convince a few of the implications of cell phones and paying attention. Wow! ![]() |
