Do You See The Motorcycle
Do You see the motorcycle ?

Now do you see it ?

The Honda crotch rocket rider was traveling at approximately 85 mph. The VW driver was talking on a cell phone when she pulled out from a side street, apparently not seeing the motorcycle. The riders reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 20 feet from where the collision took place.

All three involved (two in the car and the bike rider) were killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at the Motorcycle Fair by the Police and Road Safety Department.

Pass this on to car drivers or soon to be new drivers, or new motorcycle owners
AND ESPECIALLY EVERYONE YOU KNOW WHO HAS A CELL PHONE!!!!!

A picture is worth a thousand words

Stop talking on Cell phones and Texting while trying to drive. Put your Cell phone in the back seat !!!

Holly freakin repost Batman...

That's only been all over this forum about a dozen times.

(the speed of the bike has been anything from 55 to 155 depending on who posts it up)

Nice "find"

Well being as the three people before you hadn't seen it yet, don't you think it may be worthy of a repost Batman?

Well played. If a car is gonna take you out, its best to take one or two of them out with you.

Hmm, I have a weird suggestion for the organizers that put this demonstration together... lets see.... what was it.... oh I know... HOW ABOUT PUTTING THIS FUCKING DISPLAY IN CAR SHOWS?!?!?! How about we wake DRIVERS up out of their cell phone coma's with some shocking and dramatic displays??? Gee what an idea. Oh wait, lets just keep demonizing and blaming motorcycles. That's easier.

i think you are referring to this:

http://www.driveandstayalive.com/art...crash_2005.htm

phone not mentioned, but talking on the phone while driving or riding is still a bad idea regardless..

Based on what was posted, I agree speed was a factor, but based on the info above and damage done to the car, it could be easily deduced that even if the bike was going 20mph slower (possibly within the speed limit depending on location) this STILL would have happened. However, clicking the link below, the other article claims he was going 155. So if we take something in between (which is probably closer to the actual speed) say 120 then ya I would agree the biker is at primary fault as his closing speed is just beyond anything an average driver is prepared for, not to mention a DISTRACTED driver. Still, they are only addressing part of the problem when it comes to preventing general car/bike collisions by only bringing this demo to moto shows. It's a two way street...Drivers need just as much of a sobering up as bikers. ( No pun intended.)

I believe it is a Honda VFR, either a 400 or 750, neither of which are very common here.

I don't think the damage supports a speed higher than 85.... at 155 that bike would have shot through the other side...
A) its not a very solid car
B) the distance from one side of the car to the other at 155 would be covered in miliseconds, the inertia of the car would not allow it to take that impact and hang on to that motorcycle...

I don't give a rip if it's a repost or not.

This is too important to leave to one posting.

This is the first time I've seen it.

This should convince a few of the implications of cell phones and paying attention.

Wow!

Wow!

And it also highlights the possible consequences of traveling 85 on a city street, or anywhere else (other than the track), for that matter!

I first saw these pics floating around the net back in 1995. Does that make me sound old?

But, yes, there is still a lesson there in riding responsibly.
