Iron butt is the standard we have set, 1000 miles in 24 hours, all on elecric. But that is as much detail as I can give away at this point ![]() |

With the electric motor mounted behind the batterys. The space where the fuel tank would have gone could be used for storage. L.E.D. lighting would cut down on power use. Solar panels could be used to suppliment the battery power loss during the day.(charge the battery's while at work) Belt drive may weigh less than a chain? I can't remember the exact details but it was going to run $10k for the lipos to get the range and power I wanted a the time. prices have come down since then. My motor of choice would be dual Hacker A200's 20hp brushless motors, They can pull 250A each. http://www.aero-model.com/motordetai...%2f200&style=8 |

Found this.. MARS Brushless kit.. 15hp motor w 250a regenerative controller 30lbs.. it's half the weight of a brushed equivalent. http://www.robotmarketplace.com/prod...ETEKBL250.html No $$ to build it but I have fun making plans. The airplane motors are more powerful and half the weight but I wonder how durable they would be. |

| Pit Crew Joined: Dec 2006 From: Seattle, WA I Ride: SV + KLR | Barnes and Noble had a book titled something simple like "How to Build an Electric Motorcycle". $25. Almost bought it, but held off. I DO think it would be a fun project, but mine would be more hillbilly-style, maybe reclaiming parts from some electric mower and using a small dirtbike or scooter. At least for the first one. It is even greener if you use stuff that would otherwise be thrown away, right? Isn't there a guy around Seattle area that rides something like an 80's Suzuki GS with a diesel generator in the engine bay? I've only caught glimpses, but my recollection is that generator feeds electric motor and chain drive. Have seen bike at 2008 IOV and parked at Seattle Cycle Center. Never found owner, but wanted to compliment him on his ingenuity, if not outright performance. |
