I Ride: therefore I am.
xrdotimcr's Ducati 999 thread.
So, avboden has a thread for what is going to be his dad's new beemer, so I thought I'd make a thread about my awesome 999. Yeah it's pretty sweet, it's numbers aren't as spectacular as all the liter bikes out there now, but for the street and the riding I do it is above and beyond anything I could do at my skill level. Yeah, it already won some WSBK Championships, so that's pretty rad right? Some people don't like the layout of the headlights, but I think they're pretty sweet, and nobody tell's me I have a light out any more. Yeah, that's all I have for now.

Discuss.

You have a light out? On a serious note nice bike my brother in-law has the 749R and he always gives me a run for my money when we ride together. Of course that could be because I have 60 lbs on him also .

Yeah, I fucking suck because I own this bike. One day though, I'll get my dad to buy a real literbike, and then I'll ride it.

Sadly I made that up, my dad won't buy a real literbike. He only rides those Harley things, and sometimes a Victory. That and he cut me off when I turned 18.

As mention before that is the Marlboro logo, with all racing series tabaco products can't advertise any more. You will see the same on Ferrari F1 cars as well.

More pics please.

I've not seen a 999 in that livery.

The bars represent a scanner barcode for Marlboro. It's used on race bikes/cars/clothing in countries where advertising tobacco products is prohibited.

I thought the bar code represented the price of a Ducati - eleventybillion dollars.

It actually depends on what country, not the series. Example: In Qatar (UAE) they're allowed to run full logos. Pretty much everywhere else, they're not. Depends on the countries advertising laws.

Good thing they outlawed tobacco advertising on bikes and such. I was bound and determined to start smoking, but after they stopped advertising it on race vehicles I magically lost interest. Nowadays I'm totally into erectile enhancers and energy drinks.

I'm a big fan of the 749/999 series fo sho. I admit that when it first came out in '03 I was like... WTF! The styling was just so over the top compared to that other bike it replaced. It was/is a better bike to ride though in almost every way compared to a 916-996-998.

After a year or 2 they started to look better to me. And now I find them to be very attractive. They truly are some of the last handbuilt bikes from Ducati with performance that is still comparable to newer machines. The 848/1098/1198 series, as awesome as it is, lost some part of that Italian "edge" that was so prevalent in all the earlier Superbike series.

I'm actually in the process of picking up a second one as a track only bike. Willow Springs and Buttonwillow will become my new weekend hangouts. Will post pics if deal goes through, if not the search will continue.

I think I'll do white with the red barcode for my track bike too, except it'll be the GP09 scheme with the TIM logos instead of Alice, TIM was my first cell phone carrier back in 2000, when I was ten, in Italy, so I think it would be pretty cool to have that on the bike.
