Good rides in DC area?
Hey everyone,

Im in Wasginton DC for the week, and I'm renting a CanAm Spyder for Saturday.

Can anyone recommend some good routes in the area, or am I going to have to googlemaps research one? Any cool sights to see?

Thanks in advance!

Thank you!

I think Courtney (my pillion-riding gf) is looking for a more "historical" scenic route. I'll see what I can do to talk her into some good riding.

Skyline Drive. If you have &,Weather permitting out to Assateague Island. Fort Washington Park is Historical. I actually found old discarded pieces of headstones along the banks of the Potomac River! I assumed they were "mistakes"?

The Catoctin Mountain area is good riding. It's due north of Frederick about 50mi NNE of DC.

It's also where Camp David is. You may pass a little nondescript road with a 'One Way Do Not Enter' sign that leads into it.

If you like bike nights, there's a gathering every Wed or Thurs at the Barnes and Noble in Rockville, MD. Pretty big turn out. I actually met a guy by chance who's aunt I know up here in AK when I went one night a few years ago.

Have fun, Mark H.

So I ended up riding to Gettysburg and doing the auto tour, and I brought the bike back to the hotel so I can go to Arlington Cemetery tomorrow before I return it.

Great for cruising on the highway, but this machine seriously sucks in the twisties. Even leaning off like a damned monkey, the inside wheel kept lifting, which would cause the electronics to kick in and cut power.

Unless you're as old as Djoplin, I'd recommendd something else.

How much does PJD charge you? Norm's been bitching about overpaying, and I keep telling him the rate is the same for everyone.

As for the Spyder... I agree. That thing was a sack of shit. It's only redeeming quality was the ability to do burnouts with ease.

Mt Vernon (in VA),
Harper's Ferry (check and see what kind of John Brown's raid history stuff is left),
maybe swing by the Pentagon (bet you can't take tours) - never seen it (view the reconstructed 9-11 side?),
one of the close-in DC civil war battle fields (I recall the first battle was so close to DC that the aristocrats went out in their carriages to spectate,
and never again after seeing/hearing unnumbered deaths).

sounds like it's really a sight seeing day, have fun
