They says its pretty waterproof but being under the double bubble helps as well, not that I plan to ride in rain. $20bucks shipped I think off amazon... http://www.amazon.com/Monster-iEZCli...P5CYW34MSJ0671 |

Every other helmet com system I've seen comes with a volume control. Sure you have to reach up to the helmet, but that's not too bad. If you just got the speakers, I'll concur that's a nifty gadget you found. Can't really control the volume easily through a pocket. My old iPod video is dying. I'm debating going nuts with an iPhone and a bluetooth helmet rig. It'll probably cost upwards of $400 by the time I'm done, but it'd be as simple as putting on the helmet and the phone in a pocket. Right now I only use my cheapie rig for real long rides because it's too much trouble for short ones and I'd rather not have the extra noise when riding in town. But be nice to be able to skip songs and it owuld be nice to be able to lower volume if I need to. |

Not sure how long the iphone would last just to use it as an ipod, but since it's my phone too as well as mobile internet connection and I have an ipod, I use the ipod for playing music on my bike as battery power is not an issue with my nano at all (plus it is smaller and easier to fit anywhere I want it to).

| Endorsed Joined: Jan 2010 From: Clarkston, WA I Ride: Bonneville T100 | Well, the iPhone would largely be about convincing myself to actually carry a phone with me on a regular basis. I have a cell, but it usually sits on my dresser in the charger unless I'm going on a road trip, and even then it's off until I feel like checking in. The cell I've got even has a basic music player, but it's a major pain to set up playlists and such. I think having one gadget that does both jobs (and a lot of other fun stuff) might be enough to make me act like an adult and wear an electronic leash finally. The other big draw for me would be not having a wire from the helmet to the player to fuss with. My current helmet speakers have the wire glued in from trying to take off my bucket without unplugging it first. My video used to run forever if I put it on random and didn't mess with it, but now it can't even seem to make it through an 8hr shift at work. And it craps out if you try to play video without plugging it in first. And oddly enough, something inside rattles sometimes. Not all the time, and not necessarily when it's acting strange. No clue what that's about. The thing's about 5 years old now and been ridden with, dropped, played for hours on end and all manner of other abuse, so it's served it's time. |

You can get an iPhone used for less than a new iPod Touch ($200-$300). You will still have the wire from helmet to device, but the beauty of the setup shown in this thread is that it places the volume/music controls in a place that is easy to reach and use. There are setups like those pictured HERE that have a plug that fits in at the base of your helmet so you can plug/unplug your headset at the same time as fastening/unfastening your helmet.

It's been that way since the 80's, back when the walkman became popular. Don't know what the fine is or what they specifically cite you for but, I know the cops don't like it when they pull you over. Their reasoning is that you can't hear emergency vehicles coming up on you and whatever else but, it's a distraction anyway. Kinda talkin on a cell phone while driving, right? Not trying to thread jack. I just see it all the time and wonder? |

It works well, but sometimes it will skip to a totally different playlist when I only hit the skip button once. I've used it while running and snowboarding too. It's pretty decent, for that price I would definately get one. |

It seemed like this kind of thing would be comparable to the current hot-button issue of driving and talking on a cell. Distracted driving/riding is a very real concern but, if LEO's don't say anything about it during a traffic stop, I am pretty surprised. |

And I don't think they can say anything to you about it if you are using helmet speakers. Headphones are another story I believe |

So, if you look at it that way, it's pretty much the same as listening to a CD in your car. A person CAN have it up so loud that they can't hear emergency vehicles , but they're not SUPPOSED to and it's dangerous, but no different. BUT ANYWAY, as far as iPod and head phone stuff goes: Helmet speakers, IMO, do MORE damage to your ears because they have to compete with wind noise. The trick is to find some earbud headphones that won't jumble around when you slip your helmet on. You have to get ones that are thin and small. Currently I use the 2nd gen iPod Shuffle mounted to the left side (clutch side) of my helmet. The 2nd gen iPod shuffle is really easy to use with gloves and, if it's attached to your helmet, MUCH less of a distraction as trying to dig around in a pocket or fumble with a handlebar or tank mounted setup. You can keep your eyes on the ROAD!!! I went through several pairs of earbuds before finally finding ones that fit comfortably inside my helmet: Sony EX Earbuds (Model: MDREX56LP). Got em at best buy. They're comfortable, thin, and , surprisingly, pack a punch with the underpowered iPod shuffle. The best part: Out of all the earbuds i've tried, including Altec Lansing, they are the cheapest! At $20.00 ya can't beat it! Last edited by CrazyCal; 02-20-2010 at 09:49 PM..
