If you aren't falling, you aren't learning.
My Grandad told me this while he was teaching me how to ski. If one wanted to apply this to riding, in a figurative sense of course, then Sunday was a learning day for me.

I learned that if I need a new ink cartridge to print out a map for a ride, I should get it instead of just writing down directions.

I learned that when trying to navigate around a gravel road, written directions are not a good replacement for a map.

I learned that when it comes down to it, I can ride a gravel road for a few miles without any major drama. We're talking one of those deep gravel roads out in the middle of nowhere.

I learned that Monumental Dam is closed to crossing traffic.

I learned that those little Cenex gas pumps out in the middle of nowhere take credit cards. (saved my ass, that one)

I learned that, while riding in the dark is fine and riding in the rain is fine, riding in the dark and the rain across Snoqualmie Pass at 9 pm sucks copious amounts of ass.

I also learned that I can run a 650+ mile day in reasonable comfort, and with much enjoyment.

I also learned you eastsiders are hiding some kickass roads out around Palouse Falls.

Hmmm, I may have. I can't see the pics 'cause I'm not a member there. I passed a gutted out schoolhouse on Lyons Ferry Rd . Same one?

Yep.

Here are the pics (not trying to hijack your thread):

This is a map of the route we took.

I had to goto court in Dayton County for a ticket I got.

Here's the road. I think this is road number 71 in the Destinations Highway book.

It was about 100 degrees that day. Luckily they let us cross the dam. We didn't want to turn around.

And this is the burnt out schoolhouse. Some people say it's haunted.

Luckily I had my ghostbusters gear on.

Good times.

DH 71 indeed, that's where I got the routing for that bit. Cool pics.

I've wrecked almost 10 times since about May, 2005: totaling two bikes. I should get mad rep points for making all of your insurance rates go up!

Just like that, but in the dark. My ass finally unpuckered enough for me to remove the seat just yesterday.
