Hex Axle Tool!
Finally bought one of these gems so that I can pull the front on my 12.

I do the 10 enough and everytime I want to pull the rims on the 12 I get all set up and then give myself the headshaker 'cause I don;t have the appropriate tool

If anyone in the area needs to borrow it sometime let me know. It fits from like 17mm to 24mm.

If yours was a 17, should have said something Bryan. I have one of those. Nothing bigger in hex though.

Appreciate the offer Jim. The front on my 12 is a 22mm, guess I'll need to ride abit harder so that I get good use outta my new tool. Although I spend enough on tires as it is...

Also, a spark plug socket has the proper hex head for my ZX14. The hex head being the part you attach the ratchet to.

You flip over the spark plug socket, insert it into the axle bolt, and stick an extension into the socket and it becomes the perfect tool. For the Kawasaki's that is.

Spark plug socket of course for the peanut pulgs, the BCPR types.

I have used it many times on my front wheel. Try it, you may like it!!

Hey Brain, yes that is a cool tool also. Not trying to take the thunder, just a cheap alternative.

Cheers and beers.

You might be able to get a big hex tool at the hardware store? I'm not sure.
I got bought mine at the Yamaha shop tonight, Cycle Gear has them as well. It's a "multi tool" as it fits all sportbikes.

Um, it was a real question. I am assuming (yeah I know) that you got it for removing the axle right? do you not have the abilty to leave the pinch bolts tight until after you loosen the axle bolt?

This really isnt meant as a jab.

My zx14 is 22mm on both sides.
Even if you leave the pinch bolts tight on one side, you need a big azz hex for the other.

So you can not put a real wrench on either side? If that is the case, I did not know that.

Yet another reason to hate Kawis

A big bolt with the right size head and a couple nuts run together at the end works fine. FYI

You only loosen the right side pinch bolts. That allows you to use the inverted spark plug socket to loosen and pull the axle off the 14. You do not need to touch the left side pinch bolts or axle nut. You leave them in place.

I discovered the inverted spark plug socket trick on the Zx14 forums. Can never register, no moderator replies, so I just troll the topics.

Wow one was included in the tool kit for my Buell. Doesn't mean it isn't cheap and won't snap on you, as learned by a Buell riding coworker. Local shop used his factory hex tool to remove the front on his Lightning, snapped it in half (the buell one has a groove machined all around the outside of it with a circlip at the middle so you don't shove the thing all the way into the axle when wrenching. Took the mechanics at this shop a full day to do a 5k service (oil change/general lookover of the bike) and change two tires because of this broken tool.

Brian, wasted your money dude!

That tool won't work on anything if there is a Pilot Power in the garage!

And I know your battle cry "I love me some Pilot Powers"!

I have that same tool but my favorite tool is the genuine Suzuki wrench made for removing the axle. It's expensive but damn it's sweet.

You should have borrowed mine! But then you'd have to give up those PP's!
Right On! Right On!

Are you going to get your bum out to the track this up coming season, dude?

There was a disclaimer on the packaging that said something about it not working if rider has PP"s on their machine. Being the rebel that I am I didn't believe it. Bought it anyways and it appears to have worked, I think it was propaganda from Suzuki riders

It is my intention to get out the track this coming season and see what kind of fun I can have on my 10. Want to get with great dudes like you and LateApex and improve my riding skillz

Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner. $5 at most. Metric bolts have metric heads, who would've thunk it?
