Dunlop Q2

    I just put a Q2 160/60 on the rear yesterday morning and took the bike for a good 200 mile scoot.

    I have a pretty fresh D208 on the front... so still not a perfectly "matched" set.

    But. Shit! My bike has never, ever ever felt so good. It's like the tire was made for my bike. I couldn't BELIEVE the difference I felt in handling. I think it's largely due to the shape of the tire itself... and yes it also sticks like glue on dry pavement. (Not so great for wet pavement, though).

    It heats up nicely, even on a colder day like yesterday. I ran 30 psi cold front and rear and that pressure seemed to work out great for the conditions.

    But, I cannot even believe that I rode my bike the way it was before.

    We'll see how long it lasts... I'm hoping a good 3-4k. If it makes it to the 4k mark, I know what summer tire I'll be using from now on! :mfclap:

    I've installed 4 sets and have had no complaints. My buddies rave about them. I'm gonna install my set when my Bridgestones are done.

    Ahh... I was running a BT020 before putting the Q2 on. I think the biggest problem with the 020 is the profile isn't as round as it should be.

    When Jay bought his GSXR600 it had those Bridgestone 020 on there and he hated them. They are actualy sitting right here in my shop right now and I can tell you the profile on them is MUCH flater the 002's that I run!



    You can see how much more of a peak my 002 on the bike that is completly worn out has then the 020 on the left with about 40% life left on it. The secon picture is the 020 on the left and a new 003 on the right HUGE diffrence!

    how many miles are people getting out of the Q2's. I'm ready to ditch the stock tires that came on my Z1000 and I think it's down to the Q2's or a set of pilot road 2's

    Street miles... probably 2-3000 depending on how you ride. They definitely aren't "mileage" oriented tires.

    Track days... 2-4 if memory serves.

    I just finished 4.5k on this last set of q2's. The last 2k wasn't very hard riding, and the sides are DONE. 7k on this front, and its' GONE.

    Galerenest, try a bit higher pressures for street riding. They will work even better (and last longer). 34-35 cold PSI is about ideal. 30 PSI is the recommended cold pressure for track use (per Barry Wressel, Dunlop track rep for the NW).

    Thanks for the tip... I hold my tire pressures very dear to me. I was probably running 33'ish for street, and 30/30 for track cold temps. But, on the street I wasn't always running the nicest terrain.

    Pavement itself has a lot to do with how many miles you get out of a tire. I was routinely running rough, twisty roads and lots of chip seal. It's my environment.

    I still say that normal PNW roads will eat up a Q2 in 3000 miles unless your running pristine roads or are running a very mellow pace.

    I say this for the sake of whoever is considering the tire. This is my real-world experience with the tire. I cooked through 3 or 4 sets in the last year or so, and I even had other tires in between for the track. I don't run the Q2 now because I am riding dirt.

    Also, every bike is different, so tire choice has a lot to do with what kind of bike you're riding. One tire might work superb on one bike and be mediocre on another.

    Tire wear can be greatly affected by suspension also. For anyone who's interested and has an hour to kill, I highly recommend giving this video a watch.

    My ride came stock with the original Q's after about 8K I got a second set, as they were a pretty good all rounder, and the mileage was about right. Unfortunately the rear saw a nail about 3K in.

    I'm now on my first rear Q2. Installed just before winter, sweet so far, but I haven't really gone too nuts.

    so is their a special deal going on for the Q2's or is everybody just gone Q2 lovin?? i was hoping to get in on the 200$ festiville, but cycle gear knows how to play me.... :devil:
