The mini/fiddy thread (NO scooters)

Discussion in 'Motorcycle Talk' started by Mitch F, Oct 27, 2012.

  1. I know there have to be some other buffoons around here who like motorcycles that are too small for them.

    Rules are simple
    - ORIGINAL (big bore kits don't count) displacement must be 125cc or less
    - Scooters don't count
    - Near-full-size bikes don't count
    - Example: CT70 yes, CB100 no.

I never considered myself a mini enthusiast until I realized I've owned about a half dozen. Does that make me crazy? :secret:

1976 Z50, which I completely restored and sold on eBay :angry7: to a guy in Pennsylvania

1975 Kawi MC1M (90cc smoker for those unfamiliar), currently a mini flat tracker in progress.

1974 Yamaha TY80. Children's (supposedly) trials bike, and possibly the stupidest, most fun mini ever made (rear tire well worn, front tire near new).

Some motorcyclists are scared of snow. Those people are pussies.

And my latest pickup, an '04 Honda CRF, the quintessential minibike. Bought cheap, running poorly, and uber ugly, now running perfect after 10 minutes of adjustment, and after $50 and some hours, even looking nice. Houston, prepare to throw away money.

    Ok... here's my contribution;

My 71 K2 that I should have kept.. (K2 is the only early hardtail with a foot brake)

The '69 K1 that I completely restored.. and sold on fleabay. (for a very, very small profit)

The '69 K1 that I kept.. and still have. I'm sure my neighbors get a laugh watching me run up the driveway to get the mail....

    All three together...

  3. Got a plate on that K1? I think a plate may be in order for the CRF... always wanted a street legal mini. Especially a YSR :)

  4. Love My 72 RV90 I brought back from the dead. It lays down a London fog the first mile when i ride it. It climbs better then a CT90 but it's a little slower.

My first round the block test ride. Crap that seat is comfy :)

Ya know.. I don't. But if I keep it, I think I'll put a collector plate on it. The only problem is it's not much of a "street" rider.. I'd get my ass run over if I rode it on any normal city street.. damn thing goes about 26 mph FLAT out.. and given it's age, I don't like to run it that hard..

  6. my o5 crf, tons o' mods

  8. 25, nice RV! I considered one when looking for a hunting/scouting bike, but think it'd be a bit heavy to lift into a tall truck all by my lonesome (and didn't know they were so expen$ive!)

If nothing else, it'll bump the value by a LOT should you ever sell it (please don't!) and if you decide to dick around in the street and happen across Mr. Law, he won't have shit on ya. He may ticket you, but it would get dropped in court. I've been hassled on my TY before (read; $250 ticket from Mr. Dickhead Sheriff, eventually dropped in court) and that's no fun.

I've been looking for a nice YSR for years... every time one pops up I either don't have the cash, it's priced to high, too far away etc etc... SO JEALOUS! I looked at one down in Snohomish a year or so ago at a great price. Once I looked at it, I knew why :angry7:

Anybody here got a recommendation for a good CHEAP set of tall bars/clamps? I'm not dropping $200 on a set of bars/controls, but I was out just now trying my first 50 wheelies (boy, it's harder than it looks!), and those bars just won't suffice.

Anybody got some cheap tall bars and/or 7/8" clamps they wanna let go cheap?

    Keep the minis coming

  10. I love screwing around on minis. I have a 110cc chopper my son and I built for him, a pair of fully restored YSR's and I just picked up a '78 RM50 to restore. It was my 1st MX bike.

  11. I've been toying with the idea of 'tardin' out a mini bike, there is a "still born" housing development near my home with miles of twisting roadways, bumps, jumps and dirt roads mixed in just waiting to be violated. A full sized motard would undoubtedly attract too much attention from the couple residents that DO live there (on the outskirts of the development). What rims are those?

  12. DM, I'm very jealous... and Xm, I think I speak for all of us when I say PICTURES PLEASE!!!

  13. TY. Still got the bike. Had much fun racing that li'l bugger. Even tried to chase down Pete a time or two.

+1. C'mon man, let's see the "twins". :nana

Here is my old YSRM80, a Yamaha YSR50 powered by a water cooled RM80 MX motor. Made for a wild ride with about 4 times stock power, 6sp, GP shift, butt over rear axle, wheelie every gear! No pics with me on it, but think monkey/football!?!
