A Walla Walla motorcyclist was critically injured Monday in a crash south of Baker City, Ore., that left a Pendleton woman dead, authorities said.
Joanne Mohrland, 53, was flown to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho following the 12:30 p.m. crash on Highway 7, said Oregon State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings.
Mohrland and her husband were traveling with Leta Louise Currey and her husband when a pickup crossed the center line and hit the women’s Harley Davidson motorcycles, Hastings said.
Currey, 46, of Pendleton, died at the scene, Hastings said.
Troopers said the couples were northbound on Highway 7 on four motorcycles, while Derrick A. Coates, 24, of Baker City, was going south in a 1994 Nissan pickup.
Coates passed the first motorcycle, operated by Currey’s husband, then crossed the centerline and hit the second motorcycle, which Currey was on, and the third motorcycle that was operated by Mohrland.
Mohrland’s husband was the fourth in the group. He wasn’t hit by the truck.
Coates was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
