First, the bike and I are fine...........

WOOHOO!!!!! I wiped out for the first time!!!!! XT down!!!

Sooooo.....I found this great area to practice dirt ridin' stuff. Land cleared for future big box stores. Lots of good ruts, mud, puddles, varied terrain, but nothing scary for a newb. Just a place to practice standing on the pegs, gripping with my legs, let the bike slide around, etc.

Then....goin' about 30, muddy puddle, mossy corner.....WHOOP I was down. Got up, yelled F*** YEA, hit the kill switch and picked the bike up. Bent right handguard, but otherwise fine. Tough little bike.

YOU KNOW that I was geared up. Prolly gonna have a sore neck and right shoulder later........

No big deal at all, but my first time eating shyte on a moto, so I had to share.

"Bent right hand guard"

Yeah, that would be the one covering the front brake.

Check it carefully to make sure it is not contacting the front brake lever at all.

I did the same thing, thought everything was clear and a quarter mile up the road, my front rotor cover had melted over the front rotor and hub and was on the verge of catching fire due to the handguard just slightly touching the brake lever causing my brakes to drag ever so lightly.

Brakes froze due to boiled brake fluid, turned the rotor a lovely shade of blue (many in camp said so) and cooked the front caliper.

That said, on your first dirt dump.

Glad you're ok.

Take care of your neck - it might not hurt now, but this little mishap might cause you agony later. Please consider an MRI. Just sayin', cause my neck is toast from things that added up and turned into ruptured discs and arthritis.

Glad you made it to the other side out, were you watching where you were going, or looking where you wanted to go ? I will drop you a note when I get the Bueller back, we can go make rooster tails in that lot :D

It's great you're learning to ride more in the dirt!

Have fun, Mark H.

Yep, thanks. The guard was bent up and out, lever was only scuffed on the end. I got lucky there. I'll be scrubbing the mud off today so I can give everything a soild look over.

You're sweet, thank you. Fortunately, because of all the rain, the ground was very squishy. Between that and gear all I have is a stiff, sore shoulder today. Nothing serious.

Yep, I was looking ahead/through the turn....I think my error was too much body/peg weight to the inside, too much throttle for my noobness. I was forward up on the tank, and instead of remembering the dirt stuff I was working on,(weight the outside,) reverted back to a street corner kinda groove. Add mud, moss, and water, **slip**bye-bye back end! I'm not sure, it happened so FAST! As Jim would say...ran out of talent. Sliding the bike around was really fun! I'd love some coaching when ya get the Orange Menace back!!!!
