Steel Bridge Ride on Sunday 9/23

I've decided to go take a look at the High Steel Bridge near Hoodsport this coming Sunday. Since the bridge is on a Forest Service road here may be a bit of LEGAL gravel involved, but not a bunch.

This will be a low key, noob friendly ride, with a posted speed limit (+/-) pace.

For anyone wanting to tag along I will be at Sandy's Mini Mart in Belfair at 10:30, with KSU at 10:50.

There will be LOTS of legal gravel. If you aren't comfortable on gravel, don't go. That being said, don't forget to take a large stone (legal or not) with you to toss off the bridge.

Dont spread false information. There absolutely will not be illegal gravel. There will be LEGAL gravel...

If you want to catch up with the group of intreped souls we should be at the end of Purdy Cutoff around 11:20 or so.

I just consider gravel to be good practice for finding unexpected patches of chip seal.

Is it okay to use an ex wife's lawyer in lieu of a large stone?

As stated, the gravel IS legal. You will initially have some pretty rough pavement that will turn into a legal gravel road as you continue. Sportbikes maybe not so fun. Dual porpise bike, venture and Sumos are the best out there. Lawyers OK to toss. They do take a little longer to hit the bottom due to the flailing arm action but the end result would be spectacular regardless. The best thing ive seen tossed off the bridge was the top to a wedding cake with an M100 tied to it. I won't be able meet up this trip unfortunately as none of my bikes are plated right now.

I thought you only needed plates if you planed on stopping to talk with the LEO?

Ya but the LEOs around this area know me and would probably be waiting when I got home...
Didn't want to scare anyone off with the gravel info. The paved road up the Skok valley are twisty and the area is beautiful. Theres a spot off on the right as you are going up the hill that gives a killer view overlooking the valley. Visiting the bridge alone is worth the trip. It also gives riders some experience on less than perfect roads so they can hopefully avoid falling over in gravel strewn alleyways in the future.

Weather is looking stunning and I will bring my BIG camera to capture the action!!

Don't forget the photo tag while your there. Another 8 miles past the turnoff to the bridge. I'd love to join you but I'll be on the dry side of the state this weekend.

There's also another bridge over Vance Creek a few miles SSW of High Steel at the south end of NF-2340.
Probably part of the same old rail system. http://goo.gl/maps/8t4A7

Looks like it's blocked off for trail use only, but less than 1/4 mile from the road.

As good as slipping and sliding the r6 around on fs roads sounds, I had to go with the wave action...

cause the wife forked for a case of beer. It's a no-brainer.
