| Training Wheels Joined: Mar 2008 From: Bremerton I Ride: 2008 CBR1000 | $124.00 ticket for license plate So I decided to take the scooter to Home Depot yesterday to buy new locks for my new home. I was pulled over at the Ridgetop exit by the biggest dickhead deputy Sheriff. My license plate is not vertical and not far enough to the back of the tail. I told him that I would correct the problem and properly mount the plate to code. This obviously wasn't good enough or he didn't believe me, he gave me a $124.00 ticket with a big grin on his face. Words were exchanged for awhile(mostly on my end) and then I gave him the finger as he drove off. I have'nt gotten a ticket for over five years, I wasn't doing anything illegal when he pulled me over, so why could'nt he of gave me a warning or a fix it ticket? The real kicker hear is that it is a traffic violation and will reflect on my insurance. I guess I will be going to court. Definately will be moving my plate so it is vertical as to avoid this headache in the future. Anyone with an angled plate you might consider doing the same...the dickhead deputy said they are really cracking down on angled or incorrectly installed plates. Thanks for listening. |

Probably don't want to be flipping 'em off either since they can get you for it IIRC. Also from what i've read angled license plates look like you're trying to hide so they are more likely to pull you over. :( |

![]() But if you are halfway serious about challenging your ticket, you can bet your ass this officer will remember you, your response to him, and the gesture, and he WILL hold it against you in court. That dood will DEF. show up, so now it's your word against his, or rather your ($$$) lawyer's word against his... If you even consider challenging the ticket, be a man, take it in the ass with a smile when you get pulled over, give him a polite "thank you," then either A. Hope he doesn't show in court (more likely if you're NOT an ass or "stand out" to LEO...) B. Tear him a new one (legally) in court, and hope the judge buys it.

If he wasn't doing anything wrong in the first place he could have maybe gave him a warning. Lucky it wasn't me I would have wore his ass out with profanity and hope he showed up in court so I could do it all over again. Don't believe me?, if your a cop and you read this, give me a bullshit ticket and get ready to put ear plugs in. Then I'll post up on here how some fucking homo cop gave me a bullshit ticket. And you know who you are, fucking got nothing better to do and fresh out of doughnuts and the high school girls won't talk to you waiting for your big break in life fucking assholes. |

| Training Wheels Joined: Nov 2007 From: Bremerton Washington I Ride: 07 CBR1000RR | How the fuck is one to know exactly what degree of angle is legal and what not? He bought a fender eliminator kit and should think the company would sell legal stuff. Either way I know its not the money that bothers him cause he can fart and $124.00 would come out, he can even deal with the insurance part, but its the fact that the cop was a fucking asshole about it treating him like a punk kid like the ones that give the rest of us common riders a bad name. By common I mean not doing wheelies up and down wheaton way or 120mph out in front of wal-mart. Knowing the time and place to have a little fun. Also all the ones who say "had it coming", "should have had it mounted right in the first place" and such FUCK OFF. |

![]() Swearing at, or flipping the bird at a cop, no matter how much of a dick they are is a stupid fucking move. First because you can be detained for no more than that, and second because they remember it and bring it up in court and any favor you've been building up with the judge is now gone. Instead of your plate being mounted improperly and you getting it taken care of, it seems like you have an "issue with authority figures" and you probably had your plate intentionally set that way so that they couldn't catch you doing 'x' illegal activity. Then, even if your plate is now legally mounted they can make you pay it. Yeah, there are douchecanoe cops, and yeah some of them piss me the fuck off. The thing you have to remember is that they can fuck you if they want to. Also, if you're not a dick about it, the vast majority of cops will cut you a break, given that it's the minority of them that are assholes too, just like us.

I'll bet even you don't know all the laws pertaining to motor vehicles most of which are pretty lame. As for "the rest of us" it's people like me and our military and the other hard working citizens ARE the reason "the rest of you" exist, somebodys got to pick up the slack. |

To the OP: You shot yourself in the foot with the bitching at him, and especially flipping him off. That is illegal, as it's written into the new road rage laws as an offense. Everything you called him, said to him, and especially that 1 finger salute as you left was written into his supplemental. When you go to court, it'll be there for the Judge to read. Good luck with that. Your best bet, when dealing with police is to say as little as possible, and fake politeness, if your Mama never taught you better. It doesn't make you a pussy, but it may keep money in your pocket. Your attitude screwed ya there. As for not knowing the laws, that's your responsibility as a rider/driver. Ignorance of a law is not a defense to it. Good luck. Last edited by Turtle; 07-31-2008 at 08:33 PM..

Next time show a little self control. ![]() 1) The officer is doing his job. 2) You aren't "entitled" to warnings. This isn't Monopoly and there aren't any get out of jail free cards. Warnings are at the officer's discretion. 3) You might have had an opportunity to have the officer dismiss the cite in court had you fixed the problem before going to court and behaved like a reasonable human being, but that's..er..probably not going to happen now. Instead your going to show up in court, the officer is going to tell the judge, in scintellating detail, what you said and the happy wave you gave him as you rode off, whereupon the judge is going to throw the book at you. When I worked patrol, I would sometimes tell a violator to fix the problem before the court date and I would enter a motion to dismiss the cite. That provided a little incentive to fix it. I remember one guy in particular who had a lifted truck that didn't have legal mudflaps. He got several warnings from various officers in our department (at least two from me) all without fixing the problem. He was finally cited by another officer and only then did he fix it. Moral of the story is that most cops don't expect people to fix things based on a warning. Here in Oregon we don't have "fix it" cites, all you could do is issue the cite with the promise to dismiss it if the problem was fixed. Good luck on your court appearance, you're going to need it!
