I Ride: with a license to thrill!!
I got my first ticket on the bike....
for following too close....

So i was headed to Lacy's party and i was on 16 south, going the speed limit, doing nothing i thought was illegal, and just before i got to the construction zone and BAM, on come the lights and sirens. I was like WTS!! Once again, was doing the speed limit and everything, pulled over and the officer asked the usual,

"Do you know why i pulled you over?"

"No sir."

"For following too close to a vehicle and passing on the right, i couldn't get an accurate reading on your speed. I'm going to give you a warning on the passing."

Anyone know what he ment by the passing part? I was in the left lane and there was a car ahead of me and a couple of cars to my right, just slightly behind me, so i was going to turn into the right hand lane anyways to get out from behind the car infront of me cuz he slowed down infront of me (probably cuz he saw the cop or something).

Anyone know a good lawyer?

Here's the RCW, if anyone cares.

RCW 46.61.145
Following too closely.

(1) The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicles and the traffic upon and the condition of the highway.

(2) The driver of any motor truck or motor vehicle drawing another vehicle when traveling upon a roadway outside of a business or residence district and which is following another motor truck or motor vehicle drawing another vehicle shall, whenever conditions permit, leave sufficient space so that an overtaking vehicle may enter and occupy such space without danger, except that this shall not prevent a motor truck or motor vehicle drawing another vehicle from overtaking and passing any like vehicle or other vehicle.

(3) Motor vehicles being driven upon any roadway outside of a business or residence district in a caravan or motorcade whether or not towing other vehicles shall be so operated as to allow sufficient space between each such vehicle or combination of vehicles so as to enable any other vehicle to enter and occupy such space without danger. This provision shall not apply to funeral processions.

Geez, thats sort of a rare one. Following too close. If it were me I'd go before the judge and explain my position. Most of the time they reduce the fine. Why do you need a lawyer if its your first ticket? Be easy with me I havent had a ticket on a sicle since 1979. So, maybe things have changed. I was following a guy through Bremerton this evening. He was way too close to the vehicle in front of him and was goosin his bike almost pulling the front off the ground.
You werent doing that were you?

Joe.

Well, this isn't my first ticket ever. Got one a month ago for a modified exhaust on my cager. Not even going there, grrrrrr.

I just don't want it on my insurance, i would like it to stay at $34/month, that's why i would like to get a lawyer. Unless, i could just go up to the judge myself and explain what happened, then they would be nice enough to drop it......only in a perfect world....

Sorry you got a ticket for following too close.
Here's the list of lawyers in my signature. I've used Mitch Green and Tim Coogan. Both have been excellent. Others on this forum have used others on the list that are good too, so any one of them would probably be just fine.

At least you just took it without giving him lip or saying too much. Should make things much easier.

I did most of my speeding in the TriCities. I never had a judge dismiss anything. They would usually cut the fine in half though. I averaged seven speeding tickets a year there for a few years. I've gotten better at speeding.

How much did it cost for these guys? I assume it would be a little more since their office isn't near Kitsap County.

Tim Coogan was 250 for me and my brother, this past year, but it was across the water. My brother didn't have to go to court. Tim just took care of it. Mitch Green was 200 and he had to come over to Gig Harbor, but was like 10 yrs ago.

yeah, TOM WEAVER, gotten me out of a few close calls.....in my truck though, i hate cops here, they are such dicks! what did he get you for the ticket cost? he only charges face value of the ticket, and can practically guarantee it will not affect you.

I use Ryan Witt out of Bremerton. He charges $250 and has gotten me out of every ticket so far.
