83 Nighthawk 550/650 torque spec on cyl head cover
Hoping a mechanic might have this in a Honda book, or someone else has an old manual for the 83-85 Nighthawk 550/650's...

Can anyone tell me what torque should be on the bolts for the cylinder head cover for an 83 Nighthawk 550? My new head gasket is showing up tomorrow, and I cannot find the manual online... I can get it off Amazon for ~$30, but thought I would ask around first.

6 - 9 ft-lb (72 - 108 in-lb) isn't much. I wouldn't be using a torque wrench unless you have a 1/4" or 3/8" drive in-lb version. You don't want to strip those.

Edit: I figured it wouldn't be a lot of torque, but figured I should see if anyone had a better answer than my "turn til tight plus 1/4 turn" torque level.

Dude, that's for the head cover. The cylinder head torque values are 17-22 ft-lbs for 8mm bolts and 7-10 ft-lbs for 6mm bolts. Size refers to the thread size not the head of the bolt.

IMHO you would be better off trying to find the correct manual. Keep digging as I'm sure it's out there somewhere. I've found that forums specific to certain bikes will have a link somewhere to the manuals. That's how I got manuals for my CX and VF.

I'll bet theres a torque sequence(pattern) too... it would be best not to wing it...
