Generally it's merchandisers who are into volume sales that can afford it. I DO think that many forums are completely missing the boat on technical information as they are geeky about a manufacturer simply explaining how something works and that there is a solution to a poster's problems - even when there is no offer to sell. When i had my ZX-10r, i REALLY wanted the velocity stacks..............but i never got around to it........... Welcome Marc, it's actually a pretty good forum. remember that the NW weather sucks, and people spend alot of time wishing they were riding, lol. And that time is usually spent on here! Bring a bike up and meet some of these goofballs, there are a shitload of good roads, and fun bike nights. |

And getting to the point, maybe you can tell me why a perfectly shifting Tuono suddenly decides than neutral can be randomly found between any of the gears. And sometime there are only 4 gears available from the transmission which can vary to sometime 5 or 6 gears. And I won't even start the bike when in neutral now because of the horrible reciprocating knocking noise coming from the trans/shifter/clutch area. Note: The clutch plates and springs check out fine. Both AF1 & the Seattle Aprilia shops said they have never heard of transmission blowing up on these. The incident happend just block from my house at 35 steady state cruising when I looked down and saw the neutral light on whole in 3rd gear. ![]() Any knowledgable thought would be appreciated...as the title of this thread did catch my attention. Cheers! |

It sounds like your shift drum isn't being positively located. That would explain the "almost and sometimes engaging" and the "I'm only close to neutral, but still trying to drop into 1st or 2nd." Look at: the shift detent spring (it might be broken) or the detent arm (it might be be broken or roller worn out) the shift drum (it might be falling off the end of the shift drum) If it really was in 3rd gear and the readout indicated Neutral, that would mean that the shift drum was broken (a one in a million) Checking those requires removing the clutch basket assembly.
