2004 Honda 599 won't idle.
I have been helping out a friend with his '04 Honda 599. He had it in his garage for a year or so, and when he went to start it a few months back, it started hard, and didn't want to run well. I had him drain the old gas, put in some E0 premium and add some Sea Foam to that. He says it starts better than it did, but still doesn't idle well.

Fast forward to last night. I went up to actually look at the bike with him. It starts well on the choke when cold, and as it warms up the idle starts to speed up. I kept trying to take it off choke as it was warming up, but it never would hold an idle for more than 15 seconds. It won't start off choke even when warm. It also does not free rev up from idle very easily when on the choke. I took it for a bit of a ride, and it has a constant surge under steady throttle. It accelerates right up to redline with no problem from about 4k.

I tried cranking up the idle speed screw in hopes that it would hold an idle off choke, but no dice. My guess is that the carbs need to be pulled and cleaned, if not soaked. I haven't looked at the airbox yet to make sure it's clean but I will tonight.

Does anyone else have different insight that might be helpful? RedKat, is your carb dip available this weekend if needed?

Thanks in advance.

Carbs need to be pulled and cleaned. Specifically, the A/F circuit is plugged up/pilot jet is plugged. Yes, my carb dip is available but keep in mind it's a 1 gallon can. You can fit two carb bodies if you're careful. I also have a carb sync tool if you need it that will do 4 carbs at once. PM me or call...number is in my profile.

FYI...1-4 K RPM issues = idle circuit or A/F circuit...you pretty much nailed your diagnosis.

Yay. I actually did pay attention to some of the other threads up in this place. I'm hoping to pull the carbs tonight, and I'll give you a shout later about bringing them by.
