Headlamp limitations?
So I'm looking into some aftermarket lighting for my 10, and I was wondering if anyone knew how much wattage the stock system can handle? I've found some 100w monsters online that would be inSANE, but I don't wanna fry anything. An important note is that these lights will be replacing the stock headlamps, so I'm starting w/ zero wattage.

Dumb question, I'm sure, but wiring and lighting are f'ing Greek to me.

If you want pure unadulterated light, go with an HID conversion. They make units that retrofit most bulbs and run at a lower wattage than incandescent.

HIDs are the shit. best thing you can do for yourself if you ride at night! I love mine, its the first thing I will to any other bike I buy!

I wanted to, until I saw the friggin price tag.

The other problem is that the current lights I have now are non-standard, so finding the HID conversion will be ghey.

I want to bolt up some PIAA Dichroics (sp)... mmm.

you can see how bright an HID low beam is compared to a standard high beam. My kit was a retrofit done by me with a balast and harness from a new lexus. $Free.99

there are companies online that sell conversion bulb clips so you can slide the HID bulb in the same place as the original in any headlight bucket.

If you look around, you can find dual bulb systems of excellent quality for under $120, and under $80 if you're running a single bulb.

I've found a retrofit for everything from a typical H4 to much more obscure ones like H13, H10, H8 and even an H1! What retrofit are you looking for? Do you want to maintain a low/high beam? It can be done purely in HID...don't fall for the retrofit kits that use a regular halogen for the high beam...

If you do insist on using PIAA, I would recommend the Xtreme White instead of the Dichroics...better usable light spectrum without melting the plastic headlight housing and bike wiring.

The only reason I run them instead of HID is because I also have modulators...otherwise I would have HID in everything...

Nah, don't need PIAA if I can get HID inside my Dominator housings... looking to replace a pair of H4's with the bi-xenon (hi/low beam) setup.

Can you get me a bi-xenon setup for that price?

EDIT: PM SENT. I'll probably call you in the AM, too.

as previously stated, the conversion kits are all very similar and run ~$90-$120 (I havent found any of the $90 ones yet) - these dont include the projectors - they expect you to plug them into your stock reflector housing. My issues is that I was looking at it as a stock headlight replacement - which means I need the projectors too.

And then there is the issue with having to go through state inspection. Im a lot concerned about whether they would pass a non-standard projector setup.

299?!? OUCH. Unless that includes housings.

TB, go to starrotors.com. A friend of mine has their setup and its NICE. 119, no tax, free shipping. SLIM digital ballasts (what you want) in any color temp you want. Thats for 2 bulbs/ballasts.

These are just bulbs, no reflectors. Installation is def more of a pain if you need housings too, but worth it. HIDs in the wrong housing are bright, but throw light everywhere....

Well...

Alright so you don't have two true projectors. The high beam is...the low beam is diffused to spread the light around.

If you want true true projectors, you can do something like this...or this kit

Or you can just buy bulbs and be done with it.
