Question Air shock adjustment
Ok, quick question. My beater (93 Ninja 600R) has an air shock on the rear that is currently sitting at 0 psi. But me being 6'4" and 215lbs I need to add some preload to that.

What is the best method to do so? I have a compressor but will that be too much? Should I got out and buy a bicycle pump instead to air it up? I'd rather not have to spend the money on a pump, but I know blowing out the shock will be much more expensive than the bike pump in the first place...

Are you sure it wasnt filled with nitrogen gas? Never heard of an AIR shock, on a Performance bike.

What kind of shock is it? Most stock and aftermarket shocks have a nitrogen reservoir on them like James said.

Bike pump it is
Mine is identical to that one. I will head out tonight and get myself a decent bike pump w/ a gauge.

Thanks for the advice and the pretty shock pic! I was wary of using my compressor anyway, and now I'm sure I don't want to do it.

Swapping out that shock is a fairly popular mod for the ninja 250. The faq over at ninja250.org (under suspension stuff) has pretty good info on the shock (how to change out the oil and properly adjust the pressure, etc.)

No shit? I really need to get on that forum more often since I ride the ninja 250 a lot more than I ever expected when buying it... and changing out to a more durable rear shock would probably be a good thing since it's not so happy with my 195# on it.

If Brian McCoy is still a mod on that forum, give him a ration of shit for me.

Awesome, that is great info! My shock could probably use an oil change as well, might as well pull it out while I have the back of the bike apart and do that. I might have to modify my wifes bike too now! She has an '07 Ninja 250 that I frequently steal and commute on

Thanks for the link!

it's not necessarily the best option on the 250 (lowers the rear/alters geometry), but it is popular. GSXR shock is a much better option (IMO) but requires a bit of work to get it in.
