ZX10 FI light coming on?!
Over the past month the FI light on my 10 has come on several times. The performance of my machine has not changed that I can tell. Anyone in the Olympia ( or close ) area dealt with this before?
I'm pretty good at basic mech stuff but as far as electronics
At this juncture due to lack of fundage unless it starts running like crap will continuing to ride it be harmful?

Get a hold of a copy of the service manual. There is a wire jumper under the seat that will make the FI light flash a trouble code (like most OBD I cars) and a trouble code index in the manual as well. It may only be a loose connection, but at least you'll know where to look.

Mine on my zx6r keeps coming on to, but it seems when i get it to the dealership the light goes off.... they told me it could just be a lose connection or running rich. :(

You have very good odds of a similar jumper under the seat, but I don't have a zx6 anymore, nor do I have a service manual for one. Try downloading the manual from kawiforums or from zx-10r.net. Otherwise, try and sweet talk your local dealer into letting you thumb through theirs.

Loose/bad ground on PCIII? Kinda common on a zx14. Don't know about zx10's.

I haven't personally heard of a bad PCIII causing a FI light. I have heard of a bad PCIII making the bike run like ass, which could then lead to an FI light, especially if you have a Cali model bike with an o2 sensor. You can try just un-plugging the PCIII and running it, if that clears it up and it never comes on again, you can deduce that the PCIII or the connections to the PCIII is/are bad. However, it sounds like it's an intermittent problem. So, I would check the stored trouble codes on the ECU to see what has been going on first.

i hass real time datalogging diagnostic software for all makes and models. eyz can git to the bottom of things where others cannot.

just the other day i used it to clear out a table of error codes in a zx6 ecu. it was deemed fried until cleared. there are certain things stored in those things that shop manual diags cannot retrive.

Hey OLY,

As far as free stuff goes, you might clean/check the connection for the PC. Also checked for pinched wires...

Also check any connectors near where you have been (change oil or headlights or anything lately where you may have bumped a connector?)

I think the brain on our 12s is behind/under the trunk, you might check if the 10 is in the same area, maybe you bumped the connector while doing something...

You might also discon the battery for 10-15 min (turn on ignition) to reset any eprom stuff, then as soon as the light comes back on the first time, check the codes right away. (that way you wont have a whole mess of old ones stored up)

Hope you find it man,

D

I Ride: Hither, Thither and Yon ... mostly day rides
cover the warning light with black electrician's tape,
so your mind's not focusing on a light;
only half in jest ...

The bike is running fine, so troubleshoot it at your leisure. Or not.

On the Kawi's, if it shows a trouble code it does in fact go into a limp mode. Not that it's greatly reduced power, but probably a little off of max performance.
