Hey fuckwad! [I had to do that, to return the love and respect you so generously bestowed on me.]

"Despite this usage, the symbol has become stigmatized and to some extent taboo in the Western world because of its iconic usage by Nazi Germany, and it has notably been outlawed in Germany if used as a symbol of Nazism (usage of the sign by religious groups is tolerated)."

Forbidden was too strong. But, it is a symbol used with great approbation in the West and in many other parts of the world.

“ Quote:
Post-WWII stigmatization in Western countries

Because of its use by Hitler and the Nazis and, in modern times, by neo-Nazis and other hate groups, the swastika is largely associated with Nazism and white supremacy (see Western use of the Swastika in the early 20th century) in most of the Western countries. As a result, all of its use, or its use as a Nazi or hate symbol is prohibited in some jurisdictions. Because of the stigma attached to the symbol, many buildings that have contained the symbol as decoration have had the symbol removed. Steven Heller, of the School of Visual Arts, has argued that from the moment it was "misappropriated" by the Nazis, it became a mark and weapon of hate, and could not be redeemed.[56]

European Union

The European Union's executive Commission proposed a European Union wide anti-racism law in 2001, but European Union states failed to agree on the balance between prohibiting racism and freedom of expression.[57] An attempt to ban the swastika across the EU in early 2005 failed after objections from the British Government and others. In early 2007, while Germany held the European Union presidency, Berlin proposed that the European Union should follow German Criminal Law and criminalize the denial of the Holocaust and the display of Nazi symbols including the swastika, which is based on the Ban on the Symbols of unconstitutional Organisations Act. This led to an opposition campaign by Hindu groups across Europe against a ban on the swastika. They pointed out that the swastika has been around for 5,000 years as a symbol of peace.[58][59] The proposal to ban the swastika was dropped by Berlin from the proposed European Union wide anti-racism laws on January 29, 2007.[57]
And, it's not forbidden only in Germany. Poland, Hungary and Brazil outlaw it and provide fines and or imprisonment for its use.

I'm sure you can go ahead and use it, as you might nigger, if you want to be an insensitive prick and have no one think you are in the slightest funny. Free speech and free to be a dick. It's the American way.

Now wait just a minute, you just suggested history with this symbol began in 1920. Is that when you were born?

It is argued and rightly so that the symbol was not ruined for many people who used it for centuries prior to Hitlers use. It is still valued by American Hopi indians, although not used (mostly abandoned) through continued harassment of ignorant fucks who believe history of the symbol began in 1920.

The symbol is still important in many religions throughout the east.

Yes the symbol is hated in Europe, there is another great reason to use it more.

I understand that simply wearing the costume doesnt imply that he is a nazi.

what I dont understand is the reason for doing it. why would you want to dress up as a nazi? why would you take something fun and interject such a hateful image if you in no way support it?

you guys talk about witches and devils... these are fiction and legend. Are the lines so blurred for you that hitler and the nazis (which are still around by the by are in the same league as horror icons and religious boogymen? that is far more offensive to me then this dudes costume.

You miss the point, as usual. I don't think the OP would get a rise out of people if he appeared as a Hopi Indian. It is the use of the symbol in the context of Nazis (i.e., on his brown military suit) that troubles people.

Maybe history is still too real for the millions upon millions who suffered through that dark period. Maybe Nazis can be derided in another hundred years when everyone who suffered at their hands is dead and everyone who had relatives who died there is also dead.

But, I like the fact that we in the West found their behaviour and their philosophy so abhorrent that we still criticize others for not treating it with the gravity that it deserves.

Think of it as cracking jokes at someone's funeral. To many people, including me, think it is in poor taste even more than 50 years after Nazism was defeated.

I understood clearly.
I was responding to the specific "ignorant westerner." I should have simply said DUH!

We trash the ancients who lived largely with symbols and gods guiding them through life. We have allowed gods and symbols to enter into our lives and now we allow ourselves to trash people who use them wrongly??? How absofuckinglutly insane!

It is a simple design, a bunch of lines, meaningless to us who don't associate them with hate or death. I am less than concerned about the OPs use of the character or the symbol and more concerned with the people who want to judge the use symbols and gods. You people are missing the boat.

It is this mentality which gives gangs power and builds fear, through stupid symbols and impossible gods! Just like the fear of Hitler and the swastika. Oh my god!

Well, nobody asked for my opinion, but by talking about this for so long you've brought it on yourselves.

1) I think the OP, being dark complected, has NO CHANCE of being taken as anything other than a mockery of Hitler/Nazi. Or a complete fool, depending on his own behavior while in this costume.

2) It may be distasteful, but that is his right. As it is our right to discuss it and express our opinions

3) We should not ever forget or belittle what was done by Adolf Hitler. Lest it happen again...

Actually the whole reason he posted this is to hear what people have to say.. even if it's dumb as fuck. Even if it disagrees with what we're saying, your still entitled to your opinion. Of course your opinion happens to be one of the dumbest things to ever leave the mind and be expressed in public... but we actually appreciate it more than you know. It gives us plenty to laugh at and you consistently prove yourself to be one of the more idiotic people on this forum (and that's quite a feat so congrats on that) You need to read and make sure you process and understand what people are saying before you spout off bull shit... just a thought, unless of course you enjoy making yourself look stupid
