Cecilville Ca road info?
Anyone know about the road between Callahan and Somes Bar running through Cecilville?

A buddy and I are going to be trailering down to Ashland/Medford this Tuesday and then taking off Wednesday morning. I saw one of the other threads regarding happy Camp (which we had been thinking about taking).

We want to dink around Wednesday and Thursday and make it to Red Bluff Thursday night (maybe Wednesday). I was thinking of following someones advice about Hwy96 to Hwy 299, but also heard the Cecilville area was a good ride.

We plan on some Hwy 36 riding while we are down there.

Then we need to be in Sonora Friday afternoon.

Anyone?

hey, if you are gonna hit 36 heading east, take a left right after the platina store. it'll dump you in between anderson and redding. as soon as you leave 36 you have TIGHT twisties for about 10 miles and then some decent stuff for another ten miles before about 10 miles of mostly straights to the outskirts of redding. just did this a few weeks ago heading from redding to humboldt. last time i rode that road it was on a v-star. DEFINITELY much more fun this time around. pm me if you have more questions, i grew up in humboldt and i know 36 and 299 pretty well.

Callahan to Somes Bar is a great ride! The section between Callahan and Cecilville is divided two lane and fast, but Cecilville to Somes Bar is 1 1/2 to 1 lane road that hugs cliff sides with the river below. Senic and challenging, but not a high speed section, it's more tight and technical but is still fun as it can be rode at a brisk pace. When I rode through last summer they where paving the section between Forks of Salmon and Cecilville. Didn't ride it though as I headed north to Etna, which is a great ride too. Hwy 96 around Willow Creek and 299 have lots of traffic and are LEO active. You should consider Hwy 3 from Callahan south to Lewiston, before you reach Weaverville, turn left on Trinty Dam Blvd and that fun road will take you to Lewiston. From there you can catch Hwy 299 to Redding. Have fun, I'll be riding through there the summer solstice weekend myself.

Great info!

Are the roads clear of snow from Cave Jct to Happy Camp, I can't remember the hwy, but remember the route. We are considering riding down that way as well.
