Anyway, throwing it out there! |

we already payed a HUGE amount into the motorcycle safty fund (when you get your "M" DL you payed a good chunk) what we need is a public poll that is spread to all people in Oregon. ![]() actually on second though I need about 1000 hours of footage why dont you send me what you have and then work on getting the rest done kay? | |

| Superbiker | If we could do that then we wouldn't have to worry about getting rear ended at stoplights..... |

| Training Wheels Joined: Apr 2010 From: Australia | Resurrecting an old thread but here's some encouragement: The NSW Government will allow motorcyclists to filter through stationary vehicles at CBD intersections to test if the practice improves traffic flow. Even though in most Aussie states lane splitting/filtering is either not specifically illegal or has a more or less blind eye turned to it,just about every rider in Australia lane splits and filters. This trial,if considered successful, would pave the way for it to be specifically permitted. |

| Railer | Multiple threads on this subject, including this one: Lane Splitting in WA Here's one of my posts from that thread: One thing about western WA's roads.( Also most of Urbanized Western Oregon roads) We added capacity (lanes) on the cheap on most of our multi lane roads. I-5, Aurora, parts of I-405, many others. Our lanes are narrower than Cali's lanes, generally. We don't have room for lane splitting at the locations where we need it most. As much as I'd love to see it . . . it aint ever gonna happen, unless you can explain why our 9' or 10' lanes provide enough space. Spec'd lane width for Interstate hwys, without the variances granted to much of Western WA: 12' __________________ |

What we can do is offer encouragement and an example when you need to quote Govt. initiatives and studies etc. re lane splitting/filtering. You haven't given up on it, have you? Think it's too hard because of your road/lane widths? Sydney has got really narrow streets too, it was founded as a pedestrian and horse/ox cart city from 1788 onwards. If it can work there, it can work in the north west cities. |

I used to ride in Ca and made some great time through traffic lane splitting. I've sat in traffic in Seattle and lane split on Mercer waiting for a light when cars are sitting still to get back to the flow. It should be done. If you don't want to do it, don't, but if it helps you get through stopped traffic, do it. |

| Permit Joined: Aug 2012 From: Tillamook | I think OR just needs to up their speed limits. Since most here drive 10 - 15 under regardless of what road. If ODOT wants a speed limit of 55, the signs should read 65. Make I-5 75 etc. A while ago I took a bike I had recently bought on a trek down to Cali and wondered why all of a sudden traffic seemed to be going 20+ over and I was now the slow one. Downloaded a speedo app on my phone, turns out the bike gauge was 10 mph too fast. Didn't notice it in OR because of all the slow drivers. When I thought I was doing 5 - 10 over in a 55 I was really going the speed limit. ![]() |
