MotoGP 1000cc Class is Too Damn Dangerous!!!
That class should be restricted to 500cc max. While we're at it, they should restrict the number of engine strokes down to only two, four is just too many . Miss those days...sad to see the last of the smoker classes go away.

Blasphemy!
Pretty soon those dudes will be going so fast that you won't even be able to see them. It will be like watching the submarine races

I'm no engineer; But if a 500 cc two stroke is firing every other stroke. Given the same development the Moto GP class has seen in let's say, since two strokes were laid to rest. Wouldn't a comparably engineered 500 cc two stroke, put down similar power to a 1000cc four stroke. Because in essence by firing twice as often isn't that like doubling the volume of air and fuel there by equaling at least in theory the same displacement as a 1000cc. PS I not know for sure, just a thought?

Was supposed to be read with a little sarcasm. Yes,the power delivery of those two strokes along with lack of traction control made it a fine line between riding a wheelie out of a corner and massive high side. Remember the smell? Ahhhh.

I remember it was just a few years ago when tires would "chunk" unpredictably. Matt Mladin saved a 125 mph rear tire destruction and didn't even fall over. Those were scary races, I bet.

they should let teams run either 500cc two strokes, or 1000cc 4 strokes...how badass would that be??

or some kind of crazy 2 stroke 4 stroke mix, like 2 cylinders running 4 stroke, and the other 2 running 2 stroke! (patent pending!)

Theoretically, those engines have the same output.

Darn you, caught; Yes there is a special smell associated with race fuel caster oil blend. But the reality like mentioned before, the power band was so limited they were extremely difficult to ride. Another danger is those motors made the most power on the verge of seizure, caused by that fine line of too lean; A potentially dangerous situation...AJ

Watch the movie Faster...
Filmed right during the transition between the two.
The 2-strokes juct couldn't keep up with the 990cc 4-strokes...

True story, a few years ago at Monterey we were stopping to pick up a buddy at the convention center, Mick was standing there with a lady waiting for a cab. We asked him what was up. He was heading over to the fairgrounds to the Redbull VIP tent. We told him we'd give him lift and they got into our van. Funny, we were packed at that point. We drove around and got lost. Finally he's like "Lemee out mate, we'll get a cab". Of course we're all about not failing this quest and promptly denied the request. At that point i guess it was kidnapping but we were all laughing too hard to care. Finally we found the location. We all pile out of the van and follow him towards the big ass tent where two huge body guards block our entry. I looked a them and told them we were with Mick. For whatever reason the gods were watching and they let us all pass. What followed was one of the crazier drunkest nights of our lives. Crazy MF.

Fortunately/unfortunately I didn't have a camera. One of my buddies did have one and took some self photos in the van wih Mick. I don't even know if the camera made through the night. I'm afraid it would look like something from The Hangover. Didn't wake up with any tigers but we did lose one of my buddies who apparently passed out in one of the shitters. He found his way back to the hotel by checkout time though. Epic.
